George Leslie and COWI welcomed a team of students from Bellahouston Academy to our Head Office in Barrhead from the Developing the Young Workforce initiative. The aim of the initiative is to inspire and inform school pupils about what careers are available and brings their curriculum and learning to life, through multiple practical on-site visits with employers. Learning and Development Manager, Katie Walker said: "George Leslie see real value in investing time and effort at these type of events, as it’s an opportunity to capture the hearts and minds of our future workforce." Those in attendance were given a short presentation by COWI and George Leslie to give an understanding of what Civil Engineering is and then took part in some engaging practical exercises which captured their attention and brought out their enthusiasm. Sustainability and Innovation Advisor, Leigh Dempsey said: "Having the opportunity to inform, advise and influence our future workforce is an absolute pleasure. It's important to George Leslie to showcase Civil Engineering as an exciting and fulfilling career path that we know it is, highlighting that there are so many different routes into our industry. Seeing the smiles on their faces at the end of the session made it all worthwhile." Our thanks goes to Julie McCormack of COWI for inviting George Leslie to partner and collaborate on this initiative. Julie said “Collaborating with our clients to inspire young people about the careers available to them within the sector is a worthwhile investment and also a lot of fun! Thank you so much to George Leslie for their enthusiasm and support for this DYW Glasgow Work Aware event.” FARE Scotland #civilengineering #socialvalue #nowrongpath

Braidholm Road Sewer Flood Alleviation: A project in Giffnock to alleviate internal and external sewer flooding by providing extra capacity and reducing pressure on the wastewater network. The town of Giffnock is situated approximately 6 miles south-west of Glasgow and has a population of around 12,500. In June 2022, Scottish Water launched a £6.8m, year-long, investment project aimed at mitigating the risk of sewer flooding on Braidholm Road. This initiative is intended to significantly improve conditions for households that have previously experienced internal property flooding. A new offline underground storage tank with a capacity of 1.6 ML was installed beneath the grassed open space on the south side of Braidholm Road next to the junction with Whitton Drive and Graffham Avenue. The project involved constructing a storm overflow chamber, a storm overflow diversion pipe, and a 13m wide x 13m deep underground stormwater storage tank, as well as enhancing the current sewer infrastructure, to safeguard residences on Braidholm Road against sewer flooding during extreme weather circumstances. The project was managed by Investment Delivery, Scottish Water’s in-house delivery vehicle, and delivered by George Leslie Ltd; one of Scottish Water’s capital delivery partners. Our Haven Seariser 2 is currently being demobilised following a 12-month charter with GEORGE LESLIE on behalf of Caledonian Maritime Assets for the Kennacraig Ferry Terminal upgrades in Scotland. 🚢 The 250-tonne deck capacity jack-up was used as a support platform for piling operations, delivered by LDD (Large Diameter Drilling Ltd.), including: • Construction of a new steel tubular piled quay wall in front of the existing sheet pile wall • Installation of rock-socketed vertical piles for a new ramp structure The upgrades form part of the New Islay Vessel Enabling Works project, covering Kennacraig, Port Ellen, and Port Askaig - enhancing Scotland's vital ferry infrastructure. Great working alongside GEORGE LESLIE as a trusted partner on this long-term project. Wishing the team continued success as they push toward completion. 👏 #CivilEngineering #Infrastructure #Engineering #MarineCivils #MarinePiling #Piling #FerryTerminal #PortDevelopment #PortDevelopments

It’s full steam ahead at Kennacraig on behalf of Caledonian Maritime Assets with the drilling and installation of the king post piles now complete on the North Berth. All kingpost piles have now been installed at Kennacraig with the South berth being completed earlier this year in July. These king post piles in combination with sheet piles shall form a retaining wall which will reinforce the existing structures. This will allow the berth pocket to be dredged to accommodate the new ferries being brought into service. What’s next for Kennacraig on the to-do list is the reprofiling of the existing fixed ramp, upgrading of the existing MV fenders and dredging the berth pocket on the North berth. #CivilEngineering #Infrastructure #Engineering

Surprise visitor near one of our sites yesterday. BBC Radio 2 presenter Paddy McGuinness was riding almost 300 miles from Wales to Scotland to complete his epic Children In Need cycling challenge on a Raleigh Chopper bike. Paddy has raised more than £7.5m on his five-day journey on a customised 1970s children's bike called Patch. He finished his journey at BBC Scotland's HQ in Glasgow just after 10am today. But we were glad that our site team got some selfies with him before he hopped back on his bike for the finish line. #CivilEngineering #Charity #Scotland
