It is with deep sadness that Getting on Board must share the news that it is closing its doors and commencing an orderly wind-down of the charity. Despite considerable efforts from the staff, associates and the volunteer board, the reality of an increasingly challenging funding environment for infrastructure charities, coupled with acute resourcing pressures has left no viable alternative but to cease operations. Since the formation of Getting On Board in 2005 we have worked tirelessly in pursuit of our mission to change the face of trusteeship, and we couldn't be prouder of the impact we’ve had on thousands of Trustees, Charities and corporate partners. None of this work would have been possible without the incredible contribution of our small number of staff, our associate network, the volunteers on our Board and beyond, and the support and generosity of our sponsors and funders who have helped make Getting On Board’s mission a reality. While progress has been made, the mission is far from accomplished. We’re keen to hear from any individuals, charities and organisations that wish to pick up the baton and continue the work to make trusteeship more accessible and effective. We are also exploring opportunities to continue the much-anticipated Festival of Trusteeship and will share further updates in due course. In the meantime, please visit our website for information on useful resources and contacts.

Ceased operations. Thank you to everyone (staff, associates, volunteers, funders) who helped make our mission a reality.

We've seen plenty of discussion about this article. Though National Parks Authorities are not charities themselves, all boards – regardless of legal setup – benefit from a diversity of skills, knowledge and experience, and inclusive practice. In addition, National Park Authorities work closely with many charities. A lack of #diversity on a #NationalPark board may have knock-on impacts on charities in partnership. Covering 10% of our country, we're hopeful that NPAs will make moves towards stronger #governance. https://lnkd.in/eMNEjnYv

Are you a new trustee – or an existing trustee looking for a refresher on your responsibilities as a #CharityTrustee? It's important to have a clear idea of your duties – and how to carry them out. Many trustees tell us they didn’t have this, even after induction. Not to worry: we're here to help! Join "The Onboarding: induction training for newly appointed Trustees" next Wednesday, 25 September. This session is part of our Trustee Learning Programme, providing free and high-quality training to support people to become and serve as effective #trustees. We are able to run this free session thanks to our generous sponsors Russell-Cooke Solicitors. https://lnkd.in/etCa2_zZ

With Heritage Open Days running this weekend, our thoughts are on how the #HeritageCharitySector is making moves to be more accessible and inclusive. We are enjoying working with Historic England on this mission – and a research report by Dr Ambreen Shah is available to read. Its findings and recommendations are relevant to heritage organisations (and will be food for thought for the wider charitable sector). Read for free here: https://lnkd.in/ePHm3Gkc Relevant to your network? Please share! 🙌 Image description: "Barriers and enablers to board diversity in the heritage sector" reads white all-caps text on an orange background. "Dr Ambreen Shah" is in yellow caps. At the bottom of the image is half-visible light text reading 'open to change'. This image is taken from the front cover of the report referenced in the post.

Andrew Pitt and Gareth Pearl from Rathbones Group Plc delivered an excellent webinar about how #CharityTrustees can better think about investing, influence, and decisions that align with their mission. Watch it back here: https://lnkd.in/eWJWmVFW Image description: "Can your charity's investments impact society? trustee Learning Programme. Finance. This webinar is generously supported by Rathbones" reads white and orange text on a light blue background, with simple shape graphics dotted around the image. The Getting on Board logo is visible in the top right corner. It is the cover image for the event recorded on the Youtube link in this post.
