We’ve teamed up with Google to launch new AI activities and a new fun Google badge, designed to help more girls gain new skills in the digital world. Over half (52%) of girls and young women aged 11 to 21 say they think STEM subjects are seen more for boys.' (GAS 2021) Our new activities give girls an age-appropriate introduction to the technology, helping them understand AI and explore it safely. To celebrate the launch, our members Frankie, Ella and Jessie visited Google HQ to explore AI and tech 🌟 They toured the Google offices, explored the Accessibility Discovery Centre and tested out AI-powered tools like Google Lookout and Guided Frame. They also played modified games at the ADC arcade and spoke to Google’s engineers about the new activities. Yesterday, advocates Charlotte, Grace, Hilary and Molly met with Steph Peacock MP, Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth, to mark day 1 of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. We spoke about the steps every woman takes to keep themselves safe, whether they’re a Girlguiding member, a CEO or a government minister, and about the changes needed to make girls feel safer in public, in schools and online. Our Girls’ Attitudes Survey found that almost half (47%) of girls aged 11-21 fear for their safety because of sexism – a figure that has more than doubled in the last 10 years. Girlguiding is committed to supporting the government to reduce violence against women and girls in the next decade, including by making sure the voices of girls and young women are heard by decision-makers.

Why is money confidence so important? 🌟 Research commissioned by HSBC UK shows that more than a third of girls aged 5-17 don’t think they're good at managing their money. At the launch of our new money confidence activities - created in collaboration with HSBC UK - we spoke to 4 women who are passionate about financial skills for girls. Bola Sol, financial adviser, author and champion for financial literacy, Edwina Dunn OBE, creator and leader of The Female Lead, Martha Silcott, inventor and CEO of FabLittleBag, and Jennifer Strybel, COO of HSBC UK, answered questions from Girlguiding advocates Meg and Hannah on the importance of money confidence. We also heard from HSBC UK CEO Ian Stuart, Girlguiding CEO Angela Salt and Claire Hazelgrove, Labour MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke and trustee for Girlguiding Bristol and South Gloucestershire. An update about the activity centres: we’re pleased to announce that today, Foxlease is entering a new chapter under the ownership and management of Foxie's Future. Foxie’s Future is a charity committed to preserving Foxlease’s legacy and has exciting plans to keep the centre thriving as a campsite, activity centre and community resource for Girlguiding members and the wider public. This next step ensures that generations to come will continue to benefit from all Foxlease has to offer, and we look forward to working with them in the future. The money from the sale of the activity centres will go into a special future fund for the benefit of all our members – for adventure, including grants, for the future of guiding including our digital infrastructure, and for Girlguiding activities such as preserving our memories and artefacts in our archive.
