Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage

Non-profit Organizations

A global partnership of more than 1,600 civil society organisations committed to ending child marriage

About us

Girls Not Brides is the only global organisation uniquely focused on creating and sustaining a worldwide movement to end child marriage, and ensuring that this movement leads to tangible change for the girls at risk or affected by the practice. We are a network of over 1,400 civil society organisations in over 100 countries working in partnership to end child marriage. Our vision is a world without child marriage where girls and women enjoy equal status with boys and men and are able to achieve their full potential in all aspects of their lives. Our vision challenges deeply embedded social norms that harm the lives of girls, women and their communities.

  • ✨ As we conclude this year’s #16DaysOfActivism, we take a moment to reflect on the power of individual and collective action in ending child marriage. It starts with asking ourselves: What inspires us to take a stand? For Sangita, her inspiration comes from the women in her life. Growing up in a conservative, patriarchal village, her mother was married at just 14 and became a child mother. Despite these struggles, her mother’s resilience, along with the strength of her grandmother and the women in her community, fuels Sangita’s unwavering commitment to gender equality. Her call is clear and urgent: We must unite to stop child marriage and end violence against women! Ending child marriage requires all of us to take our part, find our inspiration, and act. Together, we can create a world where every girl is empowered to thrive. 💬 What inspires you? Share your thoughts and let’s work together for a better future. #16DaysOfActivism #EndChildMarriage #GenderEquality

  • ✨ As we wrap up #16DaysOfActivisms, we reflect on the incredible power of collective action in creating meaningful change. Kolawole , an inspiring advocate in Nigeria, exemplifies this principle. After returning to Nigeria to give back to his community after studying abroad, Kolawole volunteered for three years before founding his own organisation. Driven by a close bond with his mother, Kolawole focuses on the challenges faced by girls and is dedicated to uniting civil society to amplify their collective impact. Kolawole’s belief in the power of the collective is a reminder that ending child marriage requires all of us, individuals, organisations, and governments, to work together. By fostering collaboration and solidarity, we can create a world where every girl can thrive. 💬 What role does collective action play in addressing child marriage? Share your insights and let’s work together to drive change. #16DaysOfActivism #EndChildMarriage #CollectiveAction Child and Youth Protection Foundation

  • #16DaysOfActivism officially concluded on Human Rights Day, but at Girls Not Brides, we continue to celebrate and support activists working every day to end child marriage and gender-based violence worldwide. Today, we celebrate activists like Hope, a passionate advocate for girls’ education and empowerment. Hope’s unwavering commitment reminds us of the power of education as a human right and a tool for change. She works to help girls return to school, fulfil their potential, and break the cycle of child marriage and inequality. Her powerful words inspire us all: “Girls move the world. The time is now to go and transform the lives of as many young girls as possible.” Hope’s story shows the importance of ensuring every girl has access to education and opportunities. Let’s stand with Hope and activists everywhere to ensure every girl has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can create a world where every child’s rights are respected and protected. 💬 How can we collectively ensure education is accessible to all girls? Share your thoughts and join the conversation. #EndChildMarriage #EducationForAll #GirlsRights #FeministLeadership #Activism Raising Teenagers Uganda:

  • At the AWID Forum, we were proud to launch a guidance note, jointly developed by UNICEF ROSA and Girls Not Brides, that delves into the strategies of women-led organisations in South Asia addressing child marriage. This publication examines their innovative approaches, resource gaps, and promising practices, especially in the face of shrinking civic space. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e6KV8dgB The guidance also highlights the importance of fostering holistic, multi-sectoral alliances—spanning governments, UN agencies, donors, academia, and civil society—grounded in feminist principles. With the right support, these women-led, community-driven efforts can drive the transformational change needed to eliminate child marriage. Addressing child marriage requires a gender-transformative approach that shifts power dynamics, challenges harmful social norms, and builds agency for those facing gender-based discrimination. This means implementing community-led programmes that redistribute resources, ensure access to quality basic services, and empower women and girls. Let’s continue the conversation and amplify the voices of women-led organisations in this vital work. Together, we can build a world free from child marriage. #AWIDForum #EndChildMarriage #GenderEquality #SouthAsia

  • ✨ This Human Rights Day, as we continue #16DaysOfActivism, we highlight the incredible contributions of Dr. Om, whose work underscores that education is a fundamental human right. 📖 Dr. Om has dedicated his career to ensuring that every child in India has access to education. He has led ground-breaking projects to help out-of-school girls return to classrooms and played a pivotal role in campaigning for the 2009 Right to Education Act, which ensures quality elementary education for children aged 6-14 years. 🎒 Education is the cornerstone of equality. Dr. Om’s work reminds us that when we advocate for every child’s right to learn, we lay the foundation for a future free of child marriage, poverty, and inequality. 💬 What steps can we take to ensure education for all? Let’s share insights and ideas. #HumanRightsDay #16DaysOfActivism #RightToEducation #GenderEquality #Education #HumanRight

  • ✨ This #16DaysOfActivism, we celebrate activists like Alberto, whose journey demonstrates how standing up to harmful norms can drive meaningful change. As a teenager, Alberto witnessed the injustice of social norms firsthand when his father passed away. His community expected his mother to give up her property and her three sons. But his mother’s refusal to accept this injustice inspired Alberto's journey for equality and justice. Motivated by her strength, Alberto is now a social worker, helping children displaced by Mozambique’s civil war. He later founded Jossoal, an organisation dedicated to empowering youth and supporting girls at risk of violence and discrimination. Alberto’s work shows us how challenging harmful norms can ripple outward, creating opportunities for others to thrive. It’s a reminder of how action can create lasting change. 💬 How can we challenge harmful norms and create space for transformation? Let’s share ideas. #16DaysOfActivism #GenderEquality #EndChildMarriage

  • ✨ This #16DaysOfActivism, we celebrate the work of activists like Sanjeev, whose journey shows how small changes can lead to lasting impact. Sanjeev’s own childhood was filled with challenges in school, but one teacher’s encouragement made all the difference. That teacher’s belief in him inspired Sanjeev to prioritise his education and explore opportunities, transforming his life. Today, Sanjeev is dedicated to creating change for young girls at risk of child marriage. He understands that sometimes, it’s the smallest actions, encouraging a girl to stay in school, challenging harmful traditions, or providing a safe space to grow that can lead to transformations. Sanjeev’s story reminds us that we don’t need to do it all at once, even small, intentional actions can bring us closer to a future free of child marriage. 💬 What small changes can you commit to making during this #16DaysOfActivism? Let’s inspire one another. #EndChildMarriage #16DaysOfActivism #GenderEquality #Inspiring #Education
