The financial sector - while facing huge challenges in responding to the climate and nature crisis - has the power and influence to do a huge amount of good, and the Global Good Finance Awards will shine a spotlight on those who are already responding to it, in a way which encourages others to follow their example. 🤔 DYK: According to United Nations University and Global E-waste Statistics Partnership only 17%* of e-waste was formally recycled! Leaving 83% sent to landfill or incinerators 🏭, inappropriately recycled (using hazardous practices) and just stored in households and businesses. Recycling e-waste consumes significantly less energy (around 95% for aluminium), and spares our valuable soils from being polluted and our land from being trashed by mining. 'Precious metals' are called that for a reason... and some are the only metal that can be used for certain manufacturing like smartphones, wind turbines, medical equipment etc... so when they run out, there's no more. Genuine Solutions won our Circular Economy category for their efforts to increase rates of e-waste recycling, offer refurbishment and repair services for mobile phones, trade-in solutions and a wholesale division for refurbished devices. They're also supporting mobile phone operators with their circular economy programmes. 📢 As our Judging Panel requirements double for next year - with the addition of our new Global Good Finance Awards - we’re looking for new judges to join us! Positions on our panel don’t come up often! We pride ourselves on the fact that very few judges leave once they have the ‘bug’ and are part of our Global Good Community... many judges have been with us for 7, 8, 9, 10 years! We’re specifically looking for people with experience in: Humanitarian Aid, Education, Circular Economy and Tech/AI. Then for the Finance Awards, we’re looking for sustainability experience combined with: Insurance, Private Equity, Finance Communications, FinTech, Financial Inclusion and Education, Leadership and Sustainable Transition.
