Investing in nature is investing in our future. As the final days of #COP29 negotiations approach, governments must recognize nature’s critical role in climate action. Today, a global group of more than 70 NGOs, business coalitions, Indigenous Peoples organizations, and influential individuals has issued an urgent ‘COP29 Nature Statement’ calling for strong recognition of nature in the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance text under discussion in #Baku right now. World leaders are gathering in Rio for the G20. This is the moment to step up and take bold action for our planet. The world is watching. Leaders, don’t drop the ball on climate action. As we enter the second week of climate negotiations at #COP29, everything is still to play for: we need to secure high ambition at 'the finance COP' to set ourselves up for success in 2025 and at COP30.

As we enter a critical second week of #COP29, we know that governments have to agree on an ambitious new finance goal in order to meet their commitments already set out in the Paris Agreement and the Global Stocktake. G20 leaders, we are ready to build the global economy. To do this, we have two asks: → Move the money: Agree a high-ambition finance goal at COP29 which catalyzes the finance required to meet the needs of developing economies. → Publish the plans: Submit national climate plans by February that are 1.5°C-aligned, sector-specific and backed by investment positive policies that can turbocharge sustainable growth. It has become clear that constructive, supportive ideas developed some time ago on the international climate negotiations have been misinterpreted in today's context — so I want to make unequivocal our conviction: The COP process is an essential and irreplaceable vehicle for supporting the multilateral, multisectoral, systemic change we urgently need. Now more than ever. We are committed allies to and advocates for this process — and lend our total support to positive efforts underway to further strengthen it for the new era of implementation we are entering into. How do the British public see the UK's role on climate action on the global stage? Recent research based on the largest piece of British audience research undertaken may surprise some. Key takeaways showed that the public wants: 1️⃣ Stronger UK leadership on climate change, with climate change as a top foreign policy issue, and the UK to be one of the countries leading the way. 2️⃣A ‘defence plus’ approach to foreign policy i.e broader than only military defence, taking into account climate, energy, food and water security. 3️⃣ Clean and secure energy, at home and abroad, as a top priority. Understanding public attitudes in this area is key to effective climate communication in the run-up to COP29 and beyond. 500+ financial leaders representing $30+ trillion - have started to invest in the economy of the future. But we know we must go further, faster. Governments - let’s seize this generation-defining opportunity together to unleash investment into emerging markets and developing economies, and industries of the future.

How is that we’ve come to separate climate from biodiversity, as well as other issues like food systems when they are so clearly interrelated? The world will be watching #COP16, where we have a unique opportunity to strengthen the interconnectedness of climate, nature and food systems action towards #COP30 and the midpoint of this decisive decade.

The renewables revolution in emerging economies has begun: ▪️87% of power investment is flowing into clean tech ▪️Solar and wind are growing exponentially ▪️Demand for fossil fuels has peaked in 1/3 of developing economies With the lowest fossil fuel reserves per person and highest renewables potential in the world, emerging economies are on a path to gain energy faster, cheaper, and more securely. But more finance is needed to reach the global goal of tripling renewable energy by 2030. Ahead of COP29 in Baku, Mission 2025 - the global coalition of real economy leaders - is formally asking governments in developed countries to help power up emerging economies at #COP29 by massively scaling finance, particularly in lower-income countries.   Read more: https://lnkd.in/ecbKcuTM #Mission2025 RMI
