While working at the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA), I had the chance to contribute to the publication ‘Double Down, Triple Up: 20 Solutions in Action’, developed in collaboration with the Solar Impulse Foundation. This breakthrough publication brings together 20 stories of success in deploying renewable energy and improving energy efficiency. The innovative examples from around the world serve as inspiration, showing several initiatives scaling up renewable energy and proving that a clean energy future is possible. My personal highlights: 💡 ERM’s ecosystem restoration initiative in the Corriegarth wind farm, coupling the benefits of renewable energy with gains in biodiversity, which also favours local communities. 💡 EDP’s contribution to Pulau Ubin’s renewable transition, by integrating solar power and energy storage into the island’s power grid, reducing its historical reliance on fossil fuels and serving as an example for other island communities across the Asia-Pacific. 💡 Huawei’s Kela hydro-solar hybrid power plant, combining solar power and hydropower in a single project, a technological breakthrough in terms of maximising the synergies of different renewable technologies. Find out more about the 20 inspiring stories: https://lnkd.in/dau-FwG4 My sincere thanks to Saga Henriksdotter and to our colleagues from the Solar Impulse Foundation for collaborating to bring this project into reality!

Good - Bad - Ugly ! 👍 #Good: The forecasted 4% annual increase in global power demand will be met almost exclusively by new renewable energy projects. Renewable energy is being deployed at record pace but.... 👎 #Bad: New renewable energy capacity additions are not enough to cover more than this new power demand and so transition away from fossil fuels. Without a rapid increase in renewable deployment (and energy efficiency) new fossil fuel projects will continue to be built to meet power demand. 😦 #Ugly: This trend is set to continue - or even accelerate - and it is not evenly spread across geographies. Power demand in emerging markets is set to surge by 6-10%, where unfortunately, it is currently hardest to deploy renewables at scale and speed. 💡 Solutions: Urgent action needed to accelerate renewable project development: 1️⃣ Projects: Streamline and speed up #permitting processes. >3000GW of projects are currently stuck in planning. 2️⃣ Money: Mobilise $10 Trillion in #investment with access to lower cost #finance. 3️⃣ Flexibility: Preemptive investment in, and optimization of, new and upgraded #grid and #storage infrastructure. >3000GW of projects are currently waiting for grid connection. 4️⃣ Equipment: Strengthen and diversify #supply chains to increase resilience. 🔌 Iberdrola champions action on #3xRenewables by strengthening Brazil’s energy infrastructure 📍 Neoenergia’s, the national branch of Iberdrola in Brazil, Alto Paranaíba Transmission Line will connect the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo with a 1,600 km, 500 kV transmission line, boosting grid stability across Brazil and enhancing the country’s National Interconnected System. With R$ 3.8 billion of investment, this project will play a key role in Brazil’s low-carbon economy. Why it matters: 1️⃣ Energy security: Strengthens Brazil’s energy grid, ensuring that regions with a deficit in power generation are supported by surplus areas, which enhances overall grid stability. 2️⃣ Expanding deployment of renewables: The project will enable solar power generation in the northern and northwestern regions of Minas Gerais, positioning the state as a leader in Brazil’s energy transition. 3️⃣ Boost to local economies: Over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created throughout the construction process, benefiting local communities. 🗣️ “Delivering a sustainable energy model fully aligned with 1.5°C requires a sustained focus on investment in energy infrastructures to integrate massive renewable energy and achieve transport, heating, and industry electrification,” said Gonzalo Sáenz de Miera, Director of Climate Change and Alliances at Iberdrola. GRA, in partnership with the Solar Impulse Foundation, is bringing light on 20 inspiring stories of successful renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. These stories clearly show that we can reach the global clean energy goals established at COP28 by 2030, turning a clean, secure and just energy future into reality. "Without grids and storage, the transition will stall" GRA collaborates with the Green Grids Initiative (GGI) to ensure that grids are scaled and optimised to match the massive growth of renewable energy needed to meet the global energy transition targets. See more on how to unlock finance for grids in GGI's Climate Finance Principles ⤵️
🔺IEA confirms: No transition without transmission The latest International Energy Agency (IEA) market report on electricity is clear - electricity demand is soaring, and renewables will meet 95% of this growth. But without grids and storage, the transition will stall. 🔌 Global electricity demand is booming: Over the next three years, demand is set to rise by 3,500 TWh, with 85% of the increase coming from emerging markets. 📈 Renewables are on track to overtake coal by 2025—but only if grids and storage scale up fast enough to keep pace. ➡️ The challenge? Grid infrastructure is lagging: We need rapid expansion, modernisation, and digitalisation of transmission networks, alongside storage solutions to balance supply and demand. The transition is happening - but grids must not be the bottleneck. Our Climate Finance Principles for Green Grids outline the key steps to unlock capital and accelerate investment at the pace required. 🔗 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dgrBbZpC See IEA's report: https://lnkd.in/dc4m9eYr GGI Secretariat Global Renewables Alliance (GRA)| Climate Compatible Growth #CCG#CCG | Lucetia Group Marcus Stewart Gabriel Moberg Arthur Wiggers João Neto Esteves Louise Burrows Georgie Skipper Bruce Douglas Robert Cooke Max Gwynn William Blyth Saga Henriksdotter Lucia F.
