We were lucky enough to be invited in to HM Treasury's Innovation Day 24 yesterday, and will be covering some of the transformational work being spearheaded by HMT, and across government, next week - but for now here's former GCDO Mike Potter's thoughts on the theme of attracting and retaining innovators in government, which came from a conversation with HMT's Chief Information Officer, Huw Stephens . 👀 One of the most pressing challenges for government is retaining innovative talent. Mike identified three key factors for success: 1. Connection to Mission: Public servants are deeply motivated by a sense of purpose. "When people feel connected to the mission, they’re more likely to go the extra mile," Potter said. 2. Autonomy: Empowering employees to make decisions and see the impact of their work fosters a sense of ownership. "Autonomy fuels creativity and engagement," he explained. 3. Development Opportunities: Providing growth and learning opportunities keeps employees engaged. "A lot of learning happens on the job—throwing yourself in at the deep end and engaging with others across teams," Potter said. Full article in the comments. 👇 #GovernmentTransformation #HMT #ID24

Does public sector data have a leadership issue? Our exclusive new research reveals that 47% of DDaT leaders surveyed said the data function reported into the Chief Operating Officer rather than a Chief Data Officer. "While a great deal of focus has been put on the emergence of the Chief Data Officer role in government departments in recent years, only 13% of respondents said that a CDO was responsible for the data and digital functions at the executive level."
