Your Charity, Saving Lives Together
About us
The Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, one of the few air ambulances in the country to work to the Gold Standard Critical Care Model. Put simply it means we are a flying Emergency Department transporting a Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care and a Consultant Doctor to the scene of an incident or medical emergency. The GWAAC Critical Care Team cover Bristol, Bath & North East Somerset, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire and parts of Wiltshire. A population of 2.1 million people. The team are operational seven days a week, 365 days a year and attend over 5 incidents per day on average. We are one of the busiest air ambulances in the UK. We receive no government or national lottery funding so completely rely on the communities we serve to help us raise over £4 million each year, so we can be there when people need us.

On average, we're called to six people a day. Our Critical Care Team bring the skills and equipment of a hospital Emergency Department to the people who need us most. We can do that using either our helicopter or our cars. We are called to the most serious 999 calls to treat patients who are suffering from a medical or trauma-related emergency.

At just 12-years-old, Sophie who is from Weston-super-Mare, managed to raise a staggering £3,161 for GWAAC when she took on the challenge of swimming the length of the English Channel (1,334 lengths) over a two month period. 🏊♀️ She hasn't stopped there though. This year, she is attempting to swim the equivalent distance of climbing Mount Everest. 🏔️ Find out more about her challenges and why Sophie is fundraising for GWAAC: https://lnkd.in/edc__3cC #FundraiserFriday

GWAAC still has funding awarded by Bristol City Council to install 52 defibrillators across the city. We want every community across our region, which of course includes #Bristol, to have access to these lifesaving devices. We need your help to locate sites for these fully funded defibs. And if you aren't eligible for the Bristol funding, you and your community can still fundraise for your own defib. If you think you know an ideal location for a defib, click the link, find out more and submit an expression of interest: https://lnkd.in/gTRBRE_w #Defib #AED #Defibrillator
