🌍 Starting Your Journey to Net Zero: Step 0 Before you set aggressive targets and start slashing carbon emissions, there’s an important first step you shouldn’t skip: making sure your teams are set up to succeed with it. Wait, what? Businesses are run by people, and people grow and evolve. Even just one new hire can add a completely different skill and capability to your team, or introduce a new dynamic. 🎯 Checking in with your team before you carry on with something as important as carbon reduction or a new net-zero policy can provide clarity on: – Who already has an interest or is doing something about sustainability within their team? Who's influential in leading the implementation of changes or rolling out a new procedure? – What workflow tools do they use and what kind of data does each one capture? – What does your people's capacity / utilisation rate look like? How can you introduce new requirements with minimal disruption? So before you rush in implementing a boilerplate carbon reduction plan or introducing an off-the-shelf carbon calculator, talk to your team. Provide context. You may already have a good way of consolidating data internally that just needs fine-tuning. You may be surprised how much your team is already doing. And it will reinforce a feeling of collaboration, calm and thoughtful planning that could go a long way with your people.
