There were a number of significant transitions announced at last week’s Greenfingers Charity AGM, as Sue Allen stepped down from her role as Chairman and Boyd J Douglas-Davies was appointed to take up the reins. Sue’s commitment during her time as Chair has been unwavering. We cannot thank her enough for all that she has done, and will no doubt continue to do, in her role now as dedicated Greenfingers Trustee. Newly appointed Greenfingers Chairman, Boyd - a long-standing supporter of the charity and founder of our Garden Re-Leaf Day annual fundraising event - was also able at the meeting to outline his vision for the future of the charity, which will focus on creating additional gardens as well as supporting more hospices with maintenance and makeovers. And we said a fond farewell - and offered our sincerest thanks - to long-standing Board Members, Colin Wetherley-Mein and Rob Jones, Chair of Greefingers’ Garden Committee, as well as welcoming David Carey as our newest Trustee. It’s been an incredible day of fundraising. Firstly, Kate Ebbens completed her 300th run, this time, with our great friend, Bob, starting and finishing at Acorns Children's Hospice. We met the brilliant care team, children, families and an amazing and dedicated volunteer, Neil, who looked after us all so well. During our visit, we heard how government funding in children’s hospices is reducing. And so as hospice fundraisers work even harder to raise money to ensure their vital inside work continues, the support of Greenfingers, to create magical therapeutic gardens in hospices, is more important than ever. Huge thanks to all those fabulous businesses who donated stock at the end of the Glee Birmingham Show this time two weeks ago – and to the Hyve team for helping us facilitate this fundraising opportunity at their event. We’re delighted that collectively all these products raised more than £3,000 for our charity when they were auctioned off by our friends at W&H Peacock Auctioneers & Valuers. THANK YOU to all the exhibitors, visitors, volunteers and the organisers of the Glee Birmingham Show for a fantastic few days at the NEC. It was great to be part of Glee, one of the very best shows in Birmingham! A fabulous £2.5k was raised on #FloralThursday AND a lorry filled with donated products left the show, to be auctioned by W & H Peacocks next week. All the money raised will go a very long way to supporting our work, creating magical gardens in children’s hospices.
