Updates

  • 🌍 The recent Budget brings significant changes to the taxation of non-UK trusts for individuals with UK connections. From April 2025, updates to income tax, capital gains tax, and inheritance tax rules make it essential to review trust structures now. The "four-year" exemption offers key opportunities for new UK residents, but the window to act is closing. ⭐ I hope you’ve enjoyed our series of posts highlighting ‘one thing to think about this week’ as a result of the Employment Rights Bill. In case you’ve missed any, some of the key upcoming changes to look out for include: 📌 Unfair dismissal becoming a ‘day one’ right 📌 A significant restriction on the use of fire and re-hire 📌 Removal of the ‘establishment’ concept for the purposes of collective redundancy consultation 📌 Complex and fundamental changes to zero hours contracts 📌 Further obligations in relation to the prevention of sexual harassment and harassment generally 📌 An increase in trade union rights 🖱 Click on the hashtag below to see all of the previous updates and please get in touch if you have any questions – I’d be delighted to hear from you. This series has focused on the key strategic decisions you may need to make over the coming months and years. However, there will be plenty of other topics to think about too, including: 📌 The time limit that employees have to bring employment tribunal claims increasing from three to six months 📌 A right to switch off – preventing employees being contacted out of hours, other than in exceptional circumstances 📌 Mandatory reporting for large employers on their ethnicity and disability pay gaps 📌 A possible move towards a two part framework for employment status The good news is that we all have time to properly consider the proposed changes, with the majority not expected to be in force until 2026.  Consultations will continue in 2025, hopefully providing further insight into some of the detail we might see in the final versions of the legislation. However, do keep an eye out for the changes to flexible working in particular – we’ve seen an indication they will come into effect sooner than 2026. There will be plenty to do next year so, in the meantime, I hope you all have a fantastic holiday season and very best wishes for 2025! #OneThingToThinkAboutThisWeek

  • 2024 Review: Navigating the Retail Landscape - The coffees were on us! 🏠 In April and September, we sponsored the refreshments at Completely Retail Marketplace, an event where brands come together to meet a diverse range of retail, leisure and hospitality property professionals, discuss the market and find opportunities to start up and expand their businesses. As you can see, we took an understated approach to the sponsorship! ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eyuTFpyG

Head of Real Estate at Greenwoods Legal LLP | Expert in property law for hospitality, leisure and retail ventures

2024 the year of the retail resurgence... After years of false dawn's 2024 has been the year physical retail made a comeback. Leasing activity in premier schemes across the country has seen a significant uptick... Activity has been across the sector with the roll outs of Sostrene Green, PureSeoul, Miniso all gathering pace, while stalwarts M&S, JD sports and Frasers (with the latter buying up a number of shopping centres) have all stepped up their store openings/refurbishments. It's something the Real Estate team Greenwoods Legal LLP have directly contributed to as well, this year we have transacted on: - 139 deals - a total rent roll of £11,124,203 pax - 1,218,294 sq ft - a highest annual rent of £870,430 pax - largest sale of £6.75m So as we approach the festive break 🎄🎅🎄I just wanted to thank all our clients and referrers who have made this year one of our best. It really is appreciated and I look forward to bigger and better things in 2025 🤞 We've got a couple of exciting hires coming in 2025 so keep your eyes peeled 👀 We're still around until 1pm on 24/12 but let's be honest no one is on LinkedIn after this week... Special thanks to Sona Vig, Harry Rudolf, Myles Shearman, Amy Lynch, Anthony Lauderdale and Adam Blackwell for all their hard work on the commercial side of things this year 🙌 #landlordandtenant #retail #commercialproperty #hospitality #assetmanagement
