SPACE INVADERS: World Defense SPACE INVADERS, the much loved arcade classic, celebrated its 45th birthday in 2023. Cue a team up between TAITO, Google and UNIT9 to bring the retro classic to a hypermodern audience. Using Google’s brand new Geospatial API and cutting edge AR tech they were able to bring the Invaders into the real world, letting players work together to repel the invasion. All they needed now was a trailer to do the game justice… Enter Grizzle! Courtesy of Unit 9 we were brought in to assist the exceptionally talented Director Ant Rubenstein on VFX. The folks over at UNIT9 asked us to join them and Directors Luke and Joseph along with the team at Havas Switzerland, to animate and composite a spooky shadow monster for ‘Rosie and the Rainbow’, a short film written with children from hospitals in Switzerland to raise awareness of Theodora Foundation’s important work. For many children their formative years are tied to hospitals for all manner of healthcare requirements and this is often accompanied by stress and rife with uncertainty. Fortunately, exceptional children’s charities such as the Theodora Foundation have the Giggle Doctors, who strive to give children momentary magical escapes through performative arts, stimulating their imaginations and giving them the tools to face their fears and contribute to their development and well-being. CERN the European laboratory for particle physics and home to the Large Hadron Collider, is celebrating #CERN70 years of scientific discovery and innovation! As part of the festivities we were asked to produce eight short animations to enhance CERN's 70th anniversary exhibition at Geneva Airport, accompanying a giant 20m timeline in front of the check-in. So keep an eye out if you're visiting! We utilised X-Particles in C4D along with Blenders particle systems to depict everything from particles at the sub-microscopic level to celestial bodies viewable within the Milky Way. All on a timeline ranging from the big bang to the present day. Many thanks to the lovely people at #cern for asking back for this amazing project.
