I am proud to contribute my third article for Hodder Education's Biological Sciences Review, which has just been published in the February 2025 issue ⬇️ ⬇️   Mutualism is a topic that I have always found fascinating, and this article explores the different ways that plants 🌻 and insects 🐝 form close relationships for mutual benefit, and how in some cases they depend entirely on each other for survival.    Did you know that the University of Liverpool is the editorial home for the Biological Sciences Review? The magazine endeavours to make the latest academic research accessible to A-Level and first year undergraduate students and tutors across the UK. Recent articles written by other researchers at the University can be found here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eFSeq6f2 Hachette Learning #biologicalsciences #mutualism #alevelresources

🌟 Workshop Recap: Assessments and Assessment Techniques 🌟 I recently had the privilege of attending an insightful workshop on Assessments and Assessment Technhniques organised by Hachette Learning Paramount Books and expertly conducted by Bushra Ahsan Khan. 🎓✨ During this engaging session, we delved deep into the various types of assessments, exploring both formal and informal methods. Here’s a brief overview of what we learned: 🔍 Types of Assessments: 1. Formal Assessments: These are structured and standardized, often involving tests, quizzes, and exams. They provide measurable evidence of student learning and are typically used for grading. 2. Informal Assessments: These are more flexible and can include observations, discussions, and ungraded quizzes. They allow educators to gauge understanding in a less stressful environment. 📊 Formative vs. Summative Assessments: • Formative Assessment: Conducted during the learning process, these assessments help educators identify areas where students may be struggling, allowing for timely interventions. Examples include quizzes, feedback sessions, and peer assessments. • Summative Assessment: These are conducted at the end of an instructional period to evaluate student learning against a standard. Examples include final exams, end-of-term projects, and standardized tests. 🤝 Peer Assessments: We also explored the power of peer assessments, where students evaluate each other’s work. This not only fosters collaboration but also enhances critical thinking and self-reflection among learners. One of the highlights of the workshop was a hands-on group activity where we participated in a Paper Tower Making Challenge! 🏗️ This activity not only encouraged teamwork but also allowed us to apply the assessment techniques we learned in real-time. It was a fun and creative way to understand the dynamics of assessment in practice! Overall, the workshop was an enriching experience that equipped us with valuable strategies to enhance our assessment practices. I’m excited to implement these techniques in my own work and continue fostering a culture of effective learning and assessment. Thank you, Hachette Learning , Paramount Books and Bushra Ahsan Khan, for such a fantastic opportunity! 🙌 #Assessment #Education #Learning #PeerAssessment #FormativeAssessment #SummativeAssessment #ProfessionalDevelopment #Teamwork #Workshop #ParamountPublishers #Bushraahsankhan #ContinuousImprovement #TeachingExcellence #CommunityOfLearners 📚💡

On Saturday, 22 February 2025, I embarked on an over eight-hour, 700+ kilometer journey from Islamabad to Lahore and back. Although the trip was long, it filled me with immense pride and pleasure in the impactful work we do at Hachette Learning. In collaboration with Paramount Books, we organized a one-day workshop on Formative Assessment – Assessment for Learning, led by the esteemed trainer Maira Salman. Centered on activity-based learning, the session focused on the following outcomes: - Establishing key principles of effective assessment for learning. - Reviewing five strategies to seamlessly integrate formative assessment into classroom practices. - Exploring how feedback can drive learning forward. - Developing peer support strategies. - Generating ideas for applying formative assessment in diverse educational contexts. It was a pleasure to welcome educators from Lahore, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, and Gujrat. The encouraging feedback from participants reaffirms our commitment to empowering teachers with innovative methodologies. Special thanks to Khadija Mahmood and the Paramount team for all the arrangements. Charlie de la Bedoyere Robert Gill Emily Bell
