H/Advisors Maitland is feeling the love, having just been crowned PR & Communications Agency of the Year at the Private Equity Wire European Awards 2025! These awards recognise excellence among private equity fund managers and service providers in Europe. Love was also in the air at this week's AI Action Summit in Paris, where Cupid played matchmaker between European AI startups and investors, culminating in a passionate pledge of €150 billion over five years. But not all Valentine's stories have happy endings. The once-close partnership between OpenAI co-founders took another turn as Sam Altman declined Elon Musk's $97.4 billion proposal to acquire the non-profit controlling the company. Proof that even in AI, money can't always buy love. Written by Rebecca Gaffney, Sarah Delabriere and H/Advisors Abernathy. #privateequity #privatecapital

Last week Freddie Barber, Rachel Cohen, Daisy Padovan and Hannah Stewart represented H/Advisors Maitland at the annual CIPR Corporate and Financial Group Quiz at the newly opened Soul Mama in London. We don’t know exactly where the team finished, but they say it could have been second or third! Thank you to the CIPR Greater London Group for organising – as always, lovely to chat with colleagues and industry peers.

We're racing into February with reports and rumours about relationships between asset classes and sectors. Ahead of the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit, a French AI report reveals AI companies snagged about 20% of all venture capital funding in Europe in 2024. Meanwhile, at IPEM Cannes, our own Rebecca Gaffney chatted with Richard Hope, Global Co-Head of Investments and Head of EMEA at Hamilton Lane, about private wealth, keeping Hamilton Lane's annual survey in mind. Across the pond, Marc Rowan's crystal ball shows large private capital companies cosying to traditional asset managers, giving investors a bigger slice of the unlisted asset pie. This partnership trend could shake up Wall Street, blurring the lines between private credit and bank debt. Happy Chinese New Year! 🐍 As we slither into the Year of the Snake, private equity players are shedding old fears and embracing fresh opportunities. At IPEM Wealth in Cannes, optimism coiled around the idea that private investors could inject up to $10 trillion into private capital, while European firms were urged to perform together like a dragon dance to stay competitive on the global stage. In the US, regulators remain divided on whether looser oversight will spark fresh growth or invite a venomous wave of risk. We hear from Bloomberg Australia, no strangers to snakes, who discuss the PE firms bearing their fangs at one of the country's biggest wealth and superannuation providers. Meanwhile, from a revival in healthcare deals to a record-breaking secondary market and new waves in private credit, the private capital world is proving that while the market may twist and turn, it’s always ready to strike. IPEM kicked off yesterday with more LPs present than ever before and a full house of more than 3,000 delegates. David Sturken reflects on day one: 🔹 Keynote speaker Lorenz Jungling, Co-CEO of Moonfare predicted that if PE gets the education of private investors right, these investors could make up 49% of the investor base representing eventually US$9trn to AUM, a view supported by the IPEM/AlixPartners survey of 14 European PE associations. 🔹 With a mood of cautious optimism reflecting that PE is now a mature sector (according to William Kadouch-Chassaing, Co-CEO of Eurazeo), the view among the audience of the morning session was that if Europe pulls together it can be more competitive if it builds more resilient companies for a more resilient economy overall, by focussing on promising sectors without trying to rescue those that are in inevitable decline or too mature for strong growth. 🔹 What attendees are most concerned about are new trade barriers and changes to investment policies, a reflection of the new US President who was present, but not an overly strong influence on people's outlook, at least for now. The H/Advisors Maitland team are back on the ground today so do get in touch if you would like to discuss how we can assist private capital firms, portfolio companies, private banks, and wealth managers with strategic communications.
