It’s always rewarding to see the power of psychology come to life when teams are learning and laughing together! 😁🎉 Ready to elevate your team’s development? Director of Income Generation at St Gemma’s Hospice

Yesterday saw the amazing bunch of people who make up the central St. Gemma's Hospice Income Generation team come together. We had an excellent day with a big focus on communication and collaboration. A huge thank you to Paula Louise Dixon for expertly facilitating the morning session, Kerry Jackson OBE for taking us into the afternoon, Stewart Graham, Nicola Woodgate and Jane Kent for their support and of course the brilliant Wellington Place for hosting us for the day. This is the third time we’ve had a team day, an annual event, and I can honestly I am so proud of how far this team has come. Loads to celebrate but lots of challenges ahead. Thank you all for your energy, enthusiasm and smiles.

  • What would change if you stopped comparing yourself to others and fully embraced your strengths? 💡 Hear from our founder, Paula on how her work with a neurodivergent coachee has led to exactly that... I recently had the privilege of working with a neurodivergent coachee over the past year, and her journey has been truly inspiring. She shared this heartfelt reflection: "Thank you for giving me my confidence back. My management group (of 5 women) say I am a changed person from when I first met them 3 years ago. It’s partly because I’m happy with who I am, what I do, and I’m passionate about supporting us with my time rather than worrying about comparing myself to others. I’ve got a job I love because I’ve had the confidence to go for opportunities, and I know what I’m good at, which I can share with my colleagues and manager." From building confidence and recognising her neurodiverse strengths to developing effective communication and note-taking skills, as well as exploring leadership styles and time management, it has been an absolute honour to support her growth🌱, If you’re ready to realise your potential, let’s talk about how our neurodiversity specialist coaches can can support you and your employees on your journey to success and wellbeing. #coachingpsychology #strengths #wellbeing #realisedpotential #evidencebased

  • 🎯 Supporting Charity Leaders: The Hidden Cost of Compassion Having spent significant time working with charity organisations lately, we've noticed a recurring theme: The very values that draw people to the sector - compassion, dedication, service - can sometimes work against their wellbeing. Can your organisation afford the cost of burnout and compassion fatigue? The answer is a resounding no 🚫. Here are our top 5 evidence-based strategies for creating a sustainable caring culture: 1️⃣ Recognise Your Values in Overdrive - Watch for signs like skipping breaks or inability to switch off. These aren't badges of honor - they're early warning signals. 2️⃣ Practicing Self-Compassion Working in a "do more with less" environment is challenging. Place a hand on your heart, acknowledge this truth. It's not just feel-good advice - it triggers oxytocin release, countering stress hormones. 3️⃣ Ground Yourself Daily Simple practices matter. Start with a body scan and deep breathing before diving into your day. It's your emotional circuit-breaker. 4️⃣ Connect Authentically Share with peers or trusted managers. Sometimes you need perspective to recognise if you need support or simply reassurance that "this too shall pass." 5️⃣ Master Boundary-Setting Learn to say "no" strategically. Explain your reasoning - it helps others shift from reactive to intentional modes, especially crucial for team leaders. Through our work, we've seen these strategies transform charity workplaces from surviving to thriving. The result? More sustainable impact for the causes you care about. Ready to create a culture where compassion starts with self? 🫵🏿💖🫵🏽 Let's talk about how psychology-backed strategies can help your charity thrive while serving others. #CharitySector #WorkplaceCulture #LeadershipDevelopment #WellbeingAtWork #CharityLeadership #MentalHealth 💡 What's your biggest challenge in maintaining wellbeing while serving others? • 🤔 Confession time: I've watched this TED talk about 427 times (slight exaggeration, but you get it!) "Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator" by Tim Urban Yes, it's been around for a while, but as someone who spends their days working with founders and leaders, I keep coming back to it. Why? Because that sneaky "Instant Gratification Monkey" Tim talks about doesn't care how successful you are or how many people depend on you - it shows up for everyone! 🎯 My favourite insight for founders: Even high achievers procrastinate. The difference? It's not about never procrastinating - it's about understanding your procrastination patterns. Quick Power Tip: Next time you catch yourself procrastinating, don't beat yourself up. Instead, get curious. What's the actual task you're avoiding? Often, it's not the obvious one on your to-do list, but rather a bigger decision or change you're subconsciously pushing away. (And yes, I might have procrastinated on writing this post by making coffee first... twice! 😉) 🎬 Watch link in comments 👇 Here's what I'd love to know: What's your go-to procrastination activity? Mine's definitely "productive procrastination" - organising my desk or doing laundry when I should be tackling that big strategic decision! #Leadership #Productivity #FounderLife #StartupLife #PersonalDevelopment

  • World Mental Health Day: Cultivating Resilience 🌱 No jumping on the bandwagon for us today with rubbish quotes about mental wellbeing. Rather, today as always, this is a reminder that business and coaching psychologists are powerful allies in supporting workplace mental wellbeing. While not clinical practitioners, we help employees develop crucial positive resources: 💪🏾We build grit, not treat illness. ✨We empower, not diagnose. ⛹🏻♂️We cultivate resilience, not prescribe. Outcome? Employees who flourish, not just function. Spotlight: And to illustrate how we do this from an evidence-based perspective, here are some reflections from the 'INSIGHT Resilience Model' (Palmer et al. 2020) 🧠Increase self-knowledge: Reflect on your strengths perhaps with a free profile like the VIA Character Strengths Profile 😴Support positive coping: Prioritise sleep, diet, exercise 💭Highlight broader context: Be mindful of the influences around you including colleagues, social media and friends. 3 Quick Resilience Boosters: ✅Identify a key strength - how can you use it today? ✅Set one boundary between work and personal life ✅Practice a 2-minute gratitude ritual What's one small step you'll take today to build your resilience?

  • 🧠 Neurodiversity at Work: What HR Directors Need to Know A huge thank you to everyone who messaged me with their neurodiversity inclusion challenges - this post is just for you! As a Business Psychologist with a neurodiversity specialism, I'm often approached by HR and people directors grappling with how to create truly inclusive workplaces. A key question I frequently hear is: "How to better engage neurodivergent employees?" Here's an expanded guide to address this common challenge complete with considerations for you to ponder🤔 Engagement 1) Offer flexible work arrangements 💭Consider: 🗣️Speak with colleagues to explore preferred ways of working. Some may thrive with home-based options, while others might benefit from flexible start/end times. Remember, neurodivergent employees often have unique chronotypes - some might have energy bursts in the evening. ✅Focus on outcomes rather than strict working hours   2) Encourage open communication about needs and preferences 💭Consider: 🛟Implement regular check-ins and create safe spaces for employees to express their needs. 🗣️Train managers on how to have supportive, non-judgmental conversations about accommodations. 3)Provide clear, written instructions and expectations 💭Consider: ✍🏾Develop a system for documenting processes and expectations. 🖼️Use visual aids where helpful. ⏲️Allow time for questions and clarification to ensure understanding. 4) Create sensory-friendly spaces 💭Consider: 🤫Conduct a sensory audit of your workplace. Offer quiet zones, adjustable lighting, and noise-cancelling headphones. 🪴Allow personalisation of workspaces to suit individual sensory needs. Remember: There's no one-size-fits-all solution. The key is fostering a culture of understanding, flexibility and continuous learning. Want to dive deeper into implementing these strategies in your organisation? I'm here to help! Book a complimentary call with us using the link below. Let's work together to create a truly inclusive workplace that recognises the unique contributions neurodiverse colleagues can make. #NeurodiversityAtWork #InclusiveWorkplace #HRChallenges
