The celebrated leaders of the last century were those who could answer questions. Now, it is those who ask the questions. The modern leader still has to be decisive, strategic and resilient, but there is much more emphasis on emotional intelligence, communication skills, flexibility of approach and self-reflection. Is it okay to be funny on LinkedIn? Yes, but try not to do it by accident. It's useful to keep your account ticking over. A potential new employer is almost guaranteed to look, and if you haven't posted or interacted for years, there's nothing you can do to fill the gap. Yes, the site's content and reactions to it have changed, and not always for the better, but numbers are up 300% in the past decade, which is impressive for a well-established site. Stay visible, stay employable, have fun when possible and avoid becoming obsessed. #socialmedia #jobsearch #linkedin #authenticity

Almost 60% of CEOs expect global growth to increase over the next 12 months, up from 38% last year and 18% two years ago. Those who expect to increase headcount over the next 12 months outnumber those saying the opposite by more than 2 to 1 and AI adoption is cited as increasing headcount rather than reducing it. UK CEOs are at the more optimistic end of these findings and ranked second for global investment in PWC's big annual survey. How to write a job description that actually gets people to apply? The single most important thing is to cover the basics and post the ad in the right place. However, this article makes some good points that chime with us. Remove unconscious bias from your language and think hard about what qualifications are required, or you may be excluding talented individuals unnecessarily. Be clear about what's a "nice to have" and what's essential, and rather than just listing tasks and responsibilities, explain how the role links to strategy. Include potential opportunities for growth and add enough colour to communicate the corporate culture but be sure to strike a balance. "Women may be judged for dressing up too much or not caring enough about their appearance; for being too empathetic or not motherly enough; for being too ambitious or not career-focused enough." These impossible standards hold women back by causing uncertainty, including when self-promoting online. Healy Hunt partners with Women in Banking and Finance and we support our clients' diversity programmes (based on many factors). Authenticity: if you can fake that, you've got it made. A work persona that is 100% task-focused and ruthlessly professional may hold you back. Being "authentic," relatable and not taking yourself too seriously can help overcome negative perceptions others may have of you. Authenticity at work isn't about sharing your views and not caring what anyone thinks; it's more about opening up, showing an interest in other people's lives and displaying some empathy and humour. If that's not the real you, adopt a work persona to serve the purpose. Be someone people want to collaborate with.
