About us
Heart Valve Voice is the UK’s dedicated heart valve disease charity. We work with patients and clinicians to help increase the awareness of heart valve disease in the UK and improve diagnosis and treatment. Heart valve disease affects over 1.5 million people over the age of 65 in the UK and while there have been many advancements in the treatment of this disease the unfortunate fact is that far too many people are not being diagnosed and treated early enough. Our aim is to ensure that more of the population is aware of the importance of having their heart checked for heart valve disease, which can often be detected through a simple stethoscope check. With increased awareness we hope to see many more heart valve disease patients get the treatment they need to go on to live full and happy lives.

Breathlessness, lightheadedness, fatigue on exertion are some of the most common symptoms of heart valve disease. However, they can sometimes be mistaken as a sign of ageing or being unfit. If you or anyone you know is often experiencing breathlessness and fatigue this festive season, go to the doctor and ask for a stethoscope check - the first step to a timely diagnosis of heart valve disease. This year has been very important for Heart Valve Voice, as the charity celebrated 10 years. Over the past decade, we have made remarkable strides in raising awareness of heart valve disease, increasing treatment levels, and advocating for better access to life-saving interventions. As we celebrate all we have achieved together, it is also a time to look ahead towards the next 10 years and the role we can play in transforming heart valve disease care. #HeartValveVoice10Years #HeartHealth #HeartValveDisease

Heart valve disease is a condition caused by either wear or disease of the heart valve(s), affecting blood flow through the heart. When diseased or defective, heart valves may not open or close properly and can interfere with blood flow. Many people mistakenly believe the symptoms of breathlessness, lightheadedness, fatigue and chest pains are due to ageing. There are several treatments available. It is important to remember that heart valve disease is a common, serious, but treatable condition that affects 1.5 million over 65s in the UK. Get to #KnowYourHeart here: https://lnkd.in/e8HUc2jv
