Our team had the privilege of participating for another year at the GenAI Summit taking place on November 18th, 2024, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Athens, Greece. 🚀 Our HTN Member, Mariza Fotiou, Vice President Digital Products, BP, participated in the sustainability panel under private capacity as founder of CuriousIQ.💡 One of the main takeaways stressed by Mariza was that: “to increase the impact of sustainability using GenAI, it is critical for SMEs to adopt an experimentation mindset. This could be supported by governments through the funding of upskilling programs for a more skilled workforce as well as grands and tax incentives who promote the adoption of such technologies.”💥 Shoutout to all the HTN members representing our organisation in this insightful venture! 👏 #hellenictech #GenAISummitDemoDays2024 #GenAI #GenerativeAI

Last week I had the pleasure of attending and speaking on the panel of “Embracing the AI Revolution and the Opportunities it Brings” organized by the Hellenic Tech Network and hosted by the High Commission of Cyprus in the UK here in London!🤖 My fellow panelists and I discussed topics regarding the recent ‘boom’ of AI in several fields like the financial services, social media, education and healthcare. I had the chance to talk about my views and opinions on more philosophical matters concerning AI and modern civilisation, as well as my experience using AI in the healthcare sector with OncoFlow and in researching Alzheimer’s Disease at UCL⚕️🧠 I had a wonderful time and the questions asked by our hosts Irene Stylianou and Peter Droussiotis led to very fruitful and exciting discussions! I was able to meet and talk with a wide variety of people after our panel, expanding on the topics previously discussed and made some great connections! I would like to take a moment to thank Irene for speaking with me and recommending me as one of the panelists in this event and the Hellenic Tech Network Founding Member Louis Loizou for an extremely well organized and productive event (and for the thoughtful novel gifted to us). #AI #hellenictechnetwork #cyprushighcommission #AIinhealthcare #healthcare #alzheimers #oncoflow #event #machinelearning #network #opportunities #tech UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council

EMBRACING THE AI REVOLUTION AND THE OPPORTUNITIES IT BRINGS On 14th November 2024, I had the pleasure to co-host and chair an exciting and highly topical meeting of professional and business people organised jointly by the Hellenic Tech Network (HTN) and the UK-Cyprus Enterprise Council (UKCEC) under the auspices of the Cyprus High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Dr Kyriacos Kouros at the Cyprus High Commission in London. The event focused on the limitless possibilities of AI in health, financial services, education, enterprise data intelligence and on the general impact of AI on the world of business and on the way people live and work. I strongly believe that the world is at an inflexion point of transformational change like we have never seen before, and that AI will be at the forefront of that change. Enterprises that fail to keep up the pace will degrade and fail. And governments that fail to deliver policy solutions to address the consequences of AI on the future of work and the structure of the world economy will fall perilously behind the curve. The philosophical debate around an AI singularity point, a contentious concept centred on a hypothetical point at which artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more intelligent than humans and evolves beyond human control is a debate that our world needs to have but this must not obscure the real and inexorable advances that AI is already making in virtually all fields of economic activity. I was privileged to have co-hosted this inspiring event, which attracted a diverse and articulate group of professional people and entrepreneurs, with Irene Stylianou of the HTN and Alexander Drousiotis, CFA of the UKCEC Gen Y Innovation Network and to have moderated a high-calibre panel of speakers: Michalis A. Michael, Anthi Papouli, Christoffer Noring, Marina Antoniou and Louis Loizou, HTN Chairman. My warm thanks to them and, also, to the Cyprus High Commissioner and to Costas Dafos, Commercial Attaché at the Cyprus High Commission, for the excellent collaboration. The lively debate that followed the panel presentations attested to the relevance and topicality of the subject matter. I look forward to revisiting this seminal theme which will undoubtedly shape the future of enterprise and humanity within our lifetimes.

A big thank you to the Hellenic Tech Network for bringing together brilliant minds from Tesla, Deloitte, DLA Piper, Amazon, UBS, Infosys, VivaCity and many more. Where better to discuss AI ethics than in Athens, the birthplace of philosophy? Here are a few of my personal takeaways from our time under the Acropolis: 1. AI Could Help Us Be Better Humans There’s a compelling argument that generative AI, by boosting our productivity, frees up more time and capacity for us to seek truth and excellence. If we use that capacity wisely, it could actually help us become better, more ethical people. Personally, I’m drawn to Plato’s Theory of Forms, where being ethical means striving for truth and excellence. Meanwhile, my friend Louis Loizou leaned more towards Aristotle’s view that knowledge is meant to make us good. The debate is far from over! 2. The Ethical Dilemmas of Autonomous Systems Tough decisions lie ahead. One profound question raised was: "If an autonomous car must choose between the life of its passenger and that of a bystander, which will it prioritize?" This ethical question remains unresolved but future autonomous systems will need an answer. 3. AI Bias: A Mirror to Our Past? We often hear about AI bias, but maybe it’s not always the AI’s fault. Since these systems are trained on historical data, they can sometimes reflect the biases of the past which are embedded in the data they’re trained on. It’s like AI is holding up a mirror to our societal history, showing us patterns that were once considered acceptable but no longer are. It makes you think—are we using AI to learn from our past mistakes?
