Would you like to hear how council-led housing developments get built from the people who made them happen? Now you can! Our Council-led Housing Network has launched an innovative new case study library that addresses common challenges faced by housing teams and encourages peer-to-peer sharing of solutions. There are already over 20 case studies from nine London boroughs in the library. “We developed the resource library in response to increasing interest from boroughs eager to learn from one another’s experiences,” says Visakha Sri Chandrasekera, Future of London’s Housing Programmes Director. “Housing development teams can leverage insights from past projects, so they don’t have to start from scratch.” London faces a significant shortfall in social and affordable housing. Over 57,000 affordable homes are needed annually to meet demand, according to the Greater London Authority, with only 29,000 started last year. This highlights a critical gap in supply, underscoring the opportunity for local authorities to collaborate effectively. “Through this collaborative approach, we can share learning that offers real insight and helps us to deliver our affordable housing in an effective way,” says Alistair Gale of Islington Council, whose Dover Court project is featured in the library. Other projects in the resource library include: ▶️ Coronation Square by London Borough of Waltham Forest in Leyton by architects Pollard Thomas Edwards, which is due for completion in 2027 (main picture) ▶️ Kyle Mews by Royal Borough of Greenwich and Fuse Architects as part of the Greenwich Builds programme (right) ▶️ Taylor and Chatto Court on the Frampton Park Estate by London Borough of Hackney with architects Henley Halebrown (left; pic: Jim Stephenson) Other boroughs with projects in the resource library are London Borough of Hounslow, Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, London Borough of Sutton, Wandsworth Borough Council and Westminster City Council. We will be expanding the library with employer requirements, design reviews, and toolkits and templates to provide teams with more materials for project planning and implementation. The Council-led Housing Network is supported by the Mayor of London and is open to all London boroughs.
