As part of its initiative 'We All Meet the World Differently', Dubai Airports launched the Sunflower a year ago to deliver an inclusive and seamless travel experience for all People of Determination (POD) with hidden disabilities, “Our success in this endeavour is a result of collaborative efforts with our strategic partners in the airport community, including government entities, airlines and service partners, to deliver a seamless experience for all our guests from kerb to boarding gate.” Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Airports From collaborating with strategic partners to coordinating a comprehensive communication programme, how did such a large, global airport coordinate the implementation of the Sunflower? We speak to Fatma Taher, Government Agenda Manager - Accessibility & Inclusivity Programme Lead at Dubai Airports, which owns and manages the operation and development of Dubai International (DXB), the world's number one airport for international passenger traffic. About us
Wear the Sunflower Lanyard when you need additional support or a little more time Not all disabilities are visible – some are not immediately obvious, such as autism, dementia, anxiety, visual or hearing impairment. People with visual or hearing disabilities do not always wear glasses or hearing aids. Those with joint problems or chronic pain may not always use mobility aids. Although the hidden disability can make daily living more challenging for many people, it can be difficult for others to recognise or acknowledge. Others may not understand the cause of the problem, if they cannot see evidence of it in a visible way. The Sunflower Lanyard makes you visible If you have hidden disabilities and require assistance, wearing the green Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard indicates that you need additional support or just a little more time. Our Sunflower Lanyard has been purposefully designed to acts as a discreet sign to staff and work colleagues that the wearer has a hidden disability and requires additional assistance. It has become the established symbol for hidden disabilities globally and has been successfully introduced to airports, supermarkets, railway stations and sports venues.

We are delighted to welcome Dublin Business School as the newest member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network in Ireland. The globally recognised Sunflower, a symbol for non-visible disabilities, has been adopted to support individuals with non-visible disabilities and ensure that the learning environment is accessible for all so they can achieve their full potential. Students from around the world attend DBS to study, and the Sunflower removes the language barrier and provides an instantly recognisable queue to indicate the wearer might need an offer of support, empathy and understanding. #DublinBusinessSchool #HiddenDisabilities #SunflowerLanyard #DiverstiyAndInclusion #BeSeenWithSunflower ALT: DBS logo. Today marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities. A global movement placing the rights and inclusion of disabled people at the centre of its objectives. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that you may need a helping hand, understanding, or more time in shops, at work, on transport, or in public spaces. The Sunflower network of organisations demonstrates a positive move towards achieving this goal by committing to training their people to recognise and support Sunflower wearers, whether they are employees, visitors or customers. Increasingly, employers are beginning to create safe and equitable workplaces where employees can thrive and enjoy fulfilling careers. Knowledge is a valuable ingredient to success, and as such, disabled employees should rightfully be part of decision-making, reflecting diverse views and experiences. The Sunflower is a symbol that represents non-visible disabilities and is a powerful tool to gain acknowledgement and acceptance. Discover the resources available to help your business become Sunflower friendly and support #DiversityAndInclusion. #IDPWD #MakingTheInvisibleVisible Film description: A young lady sits in front of a film camera and describes what the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower looks like, it is a green lanyard with sunflowers covering it.

The Sunflower Conversations podcast - Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) with Amy Kelly, Crohn's & Colitis Ireland "23% of people have said that they haven't told their employer about their condition. And the reason being for that is fear, they might be new to the role. They don't want it to affect them going for any work opportunities. But that fear of what will this mean for me, definitely comes up for people." Amy explained that inflammatory bowel disease is an autoimmune disease and how it differs from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Amy walks us through what the symptoms are and shares some interesting statistics about the impacts of IBD on patients. 🌐🎙️ LISTEN to the full The Sunflower Conversations podcast episode https://bit.ly/4bIX970 If you like the podcast, please subscribe and share. 🌻 #TheSunflowerConversations #Podcast #IBD #IBDAwareness #Crohns #CrohnsDiesase #Colitis #CrohnsAndColitisAwareness Crohn's & Colitis UK
