About us
Holkham is home to the Earls of Leicester, who have owned land and property here for over 400 years. In the 19th Century, Coke of Norfolk was noted as one of the architects of modern agriculture and in the 21st century the estate maintains its long-standing commitment to farming, conservation and the local community. Today, Holkham is recognised as one of the UK’s most diverse rural estates, managing more than 20 different rural businesses and employing over 250 people directly. A similar number of jobs are supported by the estate’s occupiers and business partners. The estate maintains nearly 300 homes for people who live and work locally and almost 4,000 of the estate’s 10,000 hectares are farmed in-hand. Holkham Emerald is one of the largest suppliers of salad potatoes in the UK. Recently the estate has benefited from North Norfolk’s popularity as a tourist destination and the estate’s leisure interests now include several cafes, an hotel, car parks and a 670-pitch holiday park. It is estimated that every year as many as a million people visit Holkham beach and the National Nature Reserve, which is one of only a handful to be managed in-hand by a private landowner. Engagement Manager at The Army Benevolent Fund– the National Charity of the British Army – I am based out of Merville Barracks in Colchester, covering the areas of East Anglia and London.
On Friday evening at Holkham Hall the Norfolk Committee for the Army Benevolent Fund held a Reception and Presentation evening for supporters in aid of the Army family. The presentation was hosted by Ben Stephens, a former Captain in the Grenadier Guards and a Northern Ireland veteran. He is the host and producer of the podcast "Talking with the Wounded". Supporters were awed by the stories shared of overcoming adversity having been injured in the line of duty. In September we hit a milestone moment, welcoming our first group of pupils to Monica's Meadow to educate them on the important of land regeneration, biodiversity and our site progress to date. This project is part of our long term commitment to inspiring the next generation of changemakers, partnering with certified eco-school CROMER ACADEMY TRUST and their eco-enrichment group. It was a hugely successful morning and we look forward to welcoming the pupils back each season to see how the meadow changes and evolves over time. Thank you to Holkham for their support and collaboration on the rollout of this project.

A year ago the Holkham Estate with the Norfolk Rivers Trust and Charles Rangeley-Wilson OBE embarked on a project to reconnect an ancient chalk stream back to the floodplain. This is the result. A major focus for our leisure businesses is decarbonizing our direct operations. Thanks to TCP Group (Taylor Construction Plant Ltd) we trialed two hydrogen powered tower lights this September for some of our weddings. The positive, as well as being a clean fuel, is they are essentially almost silent so a much nicer experience for our guests and 0 spill risk so overall better for the environment. Hydrogen is another alternative to diesel offering 0 carbon emissions. (Hydrogen fuel cells use a chemical reaction to produce energy without combustion leaving only clean power & water vapour). We’re excited to trial this new fuel & potentially influence some of our larger third party event providers. Thank you to TCP Group (Taylor Construction Plant Ltd) for this super opportunity.
