Not a big fan of Pepsi, but we love their marketing!

This Pepsi stunt is funny — but it’s also using SERIOUS BRAIN SCIENCE to drive sales. To explain how, let’s first look at the ad. “Pizza tastes better when chased by a Pepsi,” the ad says — so Pepsi did that literally, by having Pepsi drivers chase (real-looking, but probably fake) pizza delivery guys around town. It’s funny! But here’s what’s REALLY happening: Scientists call it “classical conditioning.” When we experience two unrelated things together, our brains connect them. Eventually we make a mental shortcut: Seeing one (pizza) evokes the other (Pepsi). Pepsi is smart to associate with pizza. Soda sales are slumping, but pizza is always positive. This gives people a REASON to think of Pepsi. Similarly: Corona wants you to associate it with the beach. Oreo wants you to associate it with milk. Want to stay top of mind? This is the way: Find what people ALREADY DO, and help them REMEMBER YOU when it matters. Commercials with animals usually don't do it for me - they often feel unconvincing, and honestly, they’re everywhere. But VCCP have absolutely nailed it here! The direction and casting are spot-on, brilliant soundtrack, and it genuinely made me smile. Nice work!

I had to do a double-take! Quite literally 'eye-catching'! Great use of advertising the benefit, along with personality & simplicity, it made me smile which is the most important thing of all, next to booking my next eye appointment with SpecSavers.

Did you read this ad copy correctly first time around? I didn't 😬 The clever 'garden path' copy structure can make the audience think twice, helping create a stronger cognitive imprint and making the ad easier to recall. It also aligns perfectly with the Specsavers brand. Out of Home ads should be simple, but that doesn't mean they can't be creative. Specsavers are the masters of this. 👏 👏 👏 Talon, MG OMD, Nicola Wardell. #outofhome #creativity #ooh

    • Specsavers out of home ad. We look forward to you seeing.
