𝘊ℎ𝘳𝑖𝘴𝑡𝘮𝑎𝘴 𝘪𝑠𝘯’𝘵 𝘫𝑜𝘺𝑓𝘶𝑙 𝑓𝘰𝑟 𝑒𝘷𝑒𝘳𝑦𝘰𝑛𝘦. For some, it’s a time of isolation and loneliness. If you notice someone withdrawing, struggling, or acting out of character, a simple conversation could make all the difference. If you’re worried someone may be in crisis: ◾️ Ask directly – "Are you thinking about suicide?" Don’t be afraid to say the word. ◾️ Listen without judgement – Let them talk and validate their feelings. ◾️ Help them connect – Encourage professional support or reach out to services like Samaritans. Hornbeam Training offers free suicide prevention training to help you spot the signs, start the conversation, and provide hope. Because your support could be the lifeline someone needs. With so much in the news lately about the weight loss injections I thought it would be a good time to mention the Impact of not eating properly. The recent surge in popularity of weight-loss injections has drawn attention to their effectiveness and side effects. Nadine Dorries, a former UK MP, shared her experience with a weight loss drug. She reported losing nearly two stone within a few months but noted significant side effects, including nausea, extreme tiredness, and even fainting when she did not eat enough. Skipping meals or not eating properly can lead to decreased energy levels, poor concentration, and even long-term health issues. It’s essential to maintain a balanced diet to stay productive and healthy, even while trying to lose weight. Did you know that at Hornbeam Training we offer insightful webinars on nutrition and wellbeing to help you understand the importance of proper nutrition. Menopause in the Workplace is a hot topic. Understanding what it is and the impact it can have on you, your colleagues, family or friends is the best way to support those around you. #Menopause is a natural part of ageing, affecting women, usually (but not exclusively) between the ages of 45-55. But did you know it can have a considerable impact on job performance, well-being, and overall career trajectory? 𝐈𝐟 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐚 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐈𝐭? At least one-third of the female workforce is aged 50 or over. Roughly 75% of menopausal women experience some form of symptom, with 25% experiencing severe symptoms, according to @WomensHealth. These symptoms can range from hot flashes and sleep disruption to anxiety and depression, all of which can affect work performance and job satisfaction. Symptoms can impact the ability to focus and concentrate. Severe menopausal symptoms may lead to more days off. Not understanding or accommodating menopause can create tension within teams. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐃𝐨? Knowledge is power. Ensure everyone in the organisation understands what menopause is and how it affects people. Create Comfortable Environments by thinking about temperature controls, providing fans, and access to cold water. Encourage open discussions and provide channels for confidential conversations. Implement or revise the HR policies to specifically address the needs of employees going through menopause. Addressing this issue in the workplace is not just about gender equality or personal health, it's about creating an inclusive, compassionate, and effective workplace for everyone. Are staff at your workplace trained in Mental Health First Aid? When a colleague is physically injured it's easy to see and the solution is often obvious. When a colleague is suffering mentally that is not always so obvious and the response can require something very different to a sticking plaster. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are increasingly needed in today's workplaces with mental health issues becoming more prevalent. Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK experience a mental illness each year, with millions of work days lost due to mental illness every year. MHFA courses equip people with the skills to recognise and respond to these challenges effectively enabling them to support colleagues. Trained employees can spot early signs of mental health issues in their colleagues, enabling timely intervention and support. This proactive approach can prevent small problems from escalating into more serious conditions which is good news for both the staff and the business. Want to run one of these courses for your staff? Visit our website or get in touch with me to discuss. https://lnkd.in/e5fnE_4m
