About us

The Hotelplan UK family of brands includes Explore Worldwide, Inghams and Santa’s Lapland - all based in Farnborough - together with Inntravel, based near York. Inghams taps into 90 years of exploring the outdoors. Ski the slopes, walk the walks and explore the Lapland wilderness. If nature’s in your nature… if you’re itching for adventure - you’ve found your people. Established in 1981, Explore is an adventure travel operator offering an inspiring collection of small group guided trips to more than 100 countries. Explore's award-winning guides and commitment to responsible travel create authentic travels around wildlife, culture and much, much more. Explore became B Corp certified in 2024. Inntravel specialises in slow travel, where customers can discover the lesser-trodden paths and take their time to enjoy their surroundings on foot, by bike, or even cross-country skiing. Inntravel is recognised as one of the UK's leading specialist tour operators, staffed by lovers of the great outdoors. Santa's Lapland offers the kind of Christmas that comes but once in a lifetime. Whisking families away to magical Lapland during the festive period and giving them the chance to meet Santa and his cheeky elves. Santa's Lapland makes fairytales come true. Don’t be surprised if the grown-ups are as excited as the kids. Situated in the far north of Finland, hidden in the snowy forests of Saariselkä, more than 200km above the Arctic Circle. All brands within Hotelplan UK share the same commitment to looking after our planet; and looking after our people - whether that be our team, our customers or the suppliers and communities that host our guests across the world.

Our team members are eligible for up to two volunteering days each year to assist local charities or community projects.   People can take these volunteer days by themselves, or team up with colleagues. Activities might include fundraising; working at an environmental or conservation project; or participating on the board of a charity or community entity (i.e. School Governor Duties). Last year, 157 volunteer days were taken; and for 2025, our aim is for 50% of the allowance to be used.   Our upcoming team volunteer opportunities include tree-planting at the Wild Ingleborough landscape-scale restoration programme led by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Natural England; and fundraising marathon-length walks across Surrey and London with Mind Over Mountains.   If you know of volunteer opportunities our team might want to consider – particularly on an individual basis – please feel free to drop details in the comments.   [Slide here is extracted from our Planet & People Report 2025 available at hotelplan co uk/ sustainability]

  • It’s great to hear Explore Worldwide's very own sustainability specialist Hannah Methven as the first guest of 2025 on The Tourism RESET podcast. Thanks Rebecca Woolford for the interesting chat about how Explore went about carbon labelling its trips – and so much more! The podcast is available on the Kiwano Tourism blog (https://lnkd.in/eYVKFR-d) and the usual podcast platforms like Apple, Spotify and Amazon Music.

📢 We’re pleased to share Hotelplan UK's Planet & People Report 2025 📢 This report outlines our progress and successes in the last year, along with addressing challenges we still face as we transform into a purpose-led business.  It includes case studies and stories from all of our brands – Inghams, Explore Worldwide, Inntravel and Santa's Lapland. Co-authored by Group CEO Joe Ponte, Director of Sustainability Prue Stone and Director of HR Nicky Lyle, it includes some exciting milestones from our 2023/24 financial year. During this time, Hotelplan UK: 💚 Achieved B Corp certification for Explore Worldwide 👣 Reduced the carbon footprint of our trips on a per person, per night basis for a second year running, resulting in a 10% reduction since baseline 🌼 Invested £1.2 million in carbon removal and biodiversity restoration 🌫️ Removed more than 20,000 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere via active carbon removal projects, with further carbon contracted for future removal 💸 Donated £98,601 to charitable projects 💻 Launched new recruitment websites with inclusivity in mind  🎓 Embedded carbon and biodiversity knowledge across the team through its new learning experience platform   But we’re not just looking for pats on the back. In the interests of transparency: 📈 Our absolute carbon footprint has increased for the second year running – up 5% on last year ✈️ We’ve sent a lot of passengers on holiday by train, but over 75% of our total carbon footprint is still due to flights We don’t have all the answers, but we’re constantly keen to learn, listen and collaborate with others from across the industry. So do have a read and feel free to send us any feedback.

  • We're delighted to share Explore Worldwide's second Purpose Paper, which has been published this week. In a year where the brand became a certified B Corporation, it also managed to reduce the carbon intensity of its trips by 8%, win numerous awards and support social and environmental projects in various parts of the world. All whilst honing a workplace culture and people initiatives that make this a great place to work. • Congratulations to our very own Elise Wortley, who is up for Outdoor personality of the year in the TGO Reader Awards. In her most recent expedition, Lise followed in the footsteps of Henriette d'Angeville, the second woman to summit Mont Blanc, wearing clothing and using equipment similar to that Henriette used nearly 200 years ago. Please spare a moment to learn more about her project Woman with Altitude and cast your vote!

It's been brought to my attention that I've been nominated for Outdoor Personality of the Year in The Great Outdoors Reader Awards 2025! These awards are the UK’s biggest democratic celebration of the people, places and businesses that make our outdoor lives better, and I'm very grateful to even be nominated. You can vote on the link below, there are 15 categories but you don't have to vote in them all, just skip through to yours truly, if you like! 🙏 https://lnkd.in/eq2TBnBk

❓ What's it like to work in travel? ❓ We're delighted to be involved with this year's Take Off in Travel, produced by Travel Weekly UK and ABTA, which showcases the range of career opportunities within our fantastic industry. The high street travel agent, the pilot and the holiday rep are perhaps the most commonly promoted 'faces' of travel and tourism. But brands like ours show there are opportunities across all fields. We wouldn't be where we are today without the right teams working across finance, tech, marketing and operations, to name just a few areas.  If you're curious to learn more about working at Hotelplan UK - or might know someone interested in a career in travel - click the link in the comments below Explore Worldwide, Inghams, Inntravel, Santa's Lapland, Hotelplan UK 🧮 📞 💻 🎬 🚌 🎤 🏂 👨🍳 💹 #traveljobs #travelcareers #travelandtourism

  • One of our valued planet partners, Rewilding Britain, is aiming to raise £80,000 to help hold our government to account, urge them to Think Big, Act Wild and ensure they make nature a priority. Donate to the appeal by midnight on 2 December and their partners will match every pound you give, which means your support will have double the impact. We're proud to support Rewilding Britain with a donation for every passenger we carry. Will you join us?

Our agency sales team is on the road during November and December, bringing our brands to agents up and down the UK. We kicked things off with some fun on the slopes at Chill Factore in Manchester, giving a taste of the winter adventures available with Inghams ski and Santa's Lapland. Then it was across to Yorkshire, where Inntravel played host. True to Inntravel's 40 year heritage, the Inghams Walking offering and with Explore Worldwide's small group camaraderie thrown in for good measure, the day there included a 2.5 mile tramp around the beautiful countryside, including a close encounter with a donkey named Murphy! There've been more walks alongside the talks as the team has continued through Malvern, Nottingham and Worcester. We're excited to be running 12 events in total, engaging with hundreds of our valued agents, giving away some great prizes and of course enjoying some delicious food and drink. Inghams Ski, Inghams Lapland, Inghams Walking and Santa's Lapland will be presented across the whole roadshow, with Explore Worldwide also participating in some events. As ever, we want to thank agents for their fantastic support. All our upcoming events over the next month are already filled, but you're still welcome to contact our agency sales team if you'd like to be added to waitlists.
