18th October - World Menopause Day October is #menopauseawarenessmonth with 18th October celebrated as World Menopause Day. The purpose of both is to raise awareness of the Menopause and the support available to improve health and wellbeing. Up until very recently, the Menopause was considered a 'women's issue' and a taboo subject. Those experiencing the Menopause were expected just to get on with things at work, even when they were suffering debilitating symptoms. Thankfully things are starting to change, and the conversation surrounding the Menopause and its symptoms are much more openly discussed. However, there is still a long way to go. Research by Bupa and CIPD showed that menopausal symptoms are the cause of many women leaving, or considering leaving, their jobs. Two thirds of women aged 40-60 have reported that menopausal symptoms have had a negative impact on them at work. And employers are still unclear about their responsibilities under employment law, and are failing to train their managers to support their staff. The Menopause is not specifically considered a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, but if an employee suffers disadvantage because of Menopause symptoms it could be considered discrimination under one of the protected characteristics. Furthermore, under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 employers must ensure the health, safety and welfare of their employees at work. Does your organisation know how to support employees who are going through the Menopause, do you have a policy and procedure in place, do you offer line manager training, are you fully aware of your responsibilities under employment law? If you would like support with policies, supporting your employees or training regarding the Menopause or any other employment issue, get in touch. #menopause #menopauseawareness

Well, the government announced their Employment Rights Bill, and their Next Steps to Make Work Pay plan. All in all most HR professionals seem to agree, it was slightly underwhelming with not a huge amount of detail. What we do know is that most of the key changes are not scheduled to come in for at least another year. On top of that there will be heavy consultation with various stakeholders which potentially could 'water down' any of the big changes (which already feel a little weaker than they did when they were first announced). We will be sending out an e-bulletin to our clients soon, to update on what we do know from the Employment Rights Bill, and what you can do to stay ahead of the big changes coming over the next year. #employmentlaw #employmentlawupdate #employmentrightsbill

On #WorldMentalHealthDay, let's take a moment to reflect on the importance of mental wellbeing in our daily lives, especially in the workplace. Work is often a place where we spend a significant amount of time, making it vitally important that our workplace is mentally healthy and supports both our physical and mental wellbeing. As employers, colleagues, and individuals, we can all contribute to creating environments where open conversations about mental health are encouraged, and support is accessible to everyone. If you would like to know more about supporting your employees and colleagues with mental health issues, HRi have trained mental first aiders on our team who can provide information and support. We also partner with 360 Wellbeing Limited who offer a full benefits programme providing access to health and wellbeing services. The offering 360 Wellbeing provides can be viewed here https://lnkd.in/d7gQbkzD. #MentalHealthMatters #WorkplaceWellbeing #LetsTalkMentalHealth
