Founded in 2015 by Nicki Mawby, HR Your Business Matters is dedicated to taking the hassle out of HR for our SME clients, meaning they can focus on their business growth and success. Our passionate team of CIPD-qualified People Consultants bring a wealth of experience in people management, training and recruitment across multiple sectors and industries meaning that no people challenge is too complex or too small for us to be ready to provide pragmatic and commercial support. Our clients rely on our advice about: • employee relations including dismissals and grievances, • HR administration including preparing contracts and variations, and preparing policies, • business change processes including reward, redundancy and TUPE, • recruitment and onboarding including pre-employment checks, • strategic people planning including succession and talent management.     In my role as a HR practitioner, I hate to see business owners and leaders work so hard to attract great talent to the business, just to unfortunately lose them for reasons which can be avoided. In todays tough marketplace, its so important that leaders know how they can retain their talented employees long-term. Although people leave their jobs for a variety of reasons, here are the 9 common reasons that I see which leads individuals to move on to pastures new: 1️⃣ Lack of Career Growth Employees often leave when they feel there’s no opportunity for advancement, skill development, or meaningful career progression. 2️⃣ Poor Leadership Ineffective, unsupportive, or toxic leadership can make employees feel undervalued, demotivated, and frustrated. 3️⃣ Inadequate Reward Low or stagnant pay, insufficient benefits, and lack of financial incentives lead many to seek better opportunities elsewhere. 4️⃣ Burnout and Stress A heavy workload, unrealistic expectations, or poor work-life balance can push employees to leave in search of healthier environments. 5️⃣ Lack of Recognition Feeling unappreciated for their efforts and achievements can demotivate employees and make them seek workplaces where they feel valued. 6️⃣ Work Environment Office politics, lack of collaboration, favouritism, or general negativity can make the workplace unbearable. 7️⃣ Misalignment with Company Values A disconnect between personal values and company culture, ethics, or mission can make employees feel out of place. 8️⃣ Lack of Empowerment Micromanagement or feeling like they have no control over their work or decisions can drive employees away. 9️⃣ Personal Reasons Family obligations, health issues, relocation, or pursuing a different career path are common personal reasons for leaving.     When this testimonial came through recently, it made me smile 😁 One thing we are not is 'typical' HR support. We love what we do and importantly, how we do it. So to receive a comment like 'bring your own coffee and be prepared to have a giggle' is pretty accurate. And just to add context, I love coffee, whether it be Nescafe or the most expensive brand on the market. However .... some of my clients, no names (Daniel Bridges) are coffee snobs and Nescafe is not the preferred option!     Last week was a bit of a wipe out 🤦🏻♀️ Monday I was smug that I’d avoided the bug that was circling my household. Wednesday not quite so smug as I was starting to feel awful 😫 I dragged myself through Thursday before admitting defeat and having Friday off to rest 😷 🤧 😴 Saturday I still felt 💩 but took Evie to cinema and dinner for our mummy daughter day (Paddington in puru is fab btw) when I got home I was done 🤕 and back in bed for an early night. Waking in the early hours, half asleep I wondered downstairs, missed a step and bumped all the way down (ouch) So yesterday with a grazed foot, sore elbow, bruised bum (lol) and still with cough I did absolutely nothing! Last week wasn’t the greatest, however that doesn’t mean that this week is going to be the same! What’s your plans this week? Who is nursing a cold or an injury? Are you taking care of yourself?

    I can’t quite believe it was 6 years ago! 6 years ago it was the first time (and certainly not the last) I spoke about the benefits of motivational mapping and the power of motivational leadership to drive team performance. Over the last 6 years I’ve used motivational maps to help leaders understand not only their own motivations but also what truly drives each team member and that motivation is essential for creating engagement and commitment. By aligning individual motivations with team goals, leaders can develop their team, boost productivity, and create a culture of support and high achievement. Motivational leadership is about connecting on a deeper level to understand and act on what really matters to their people.     How many of your favourite people have you met through work? This weekend I’ve had the pleasure of celebrating the wedding of one of my oldest friends. Over 20 years ago I was introduced to her when I started a new job, we worked together for a few years and have remained friends ever since. Some of my closet friends are those who I have met through my professional journey and Ive always been so grateful for their friendship. My friend met her now husband through work and they make such a wonderful couple, it was lovely to see their love and happiness on their big day 💒 👰🏻 🤵♂️ Now it’s time to chill for the evening before work in the morning!
