To mark Disability History Month, we have partnered with Diversity and Ability to explore the crucial role of disability inclusion in the workplace. In PART TWO, Scarlett James, explores the role of employee resource groups (ERGs) and disclosure. Organisations often face this paradox... Bustling, vibrant and supportive ERGs, yet notably low formal disclosure rates for disability and neurodiversity. It raises a question: Why do employees hesitate to disclose when these groups seem open and active? The missing link is revealed in the article linked in comments below 👇 #DisabilityHistoryMonth #DisabilityInclusion #ERGs #Disclosure

Most workplace wellbeing solutions put the onus on employees to ‘fix’ their stress levels, but what about the organisation’s responsibility? Sharon Aneja, Founder of Humanity Works Consultancy, looks at this problem through Airbnb’s framework of 'Elephants, Dead Fish and Vomit'. 1. The elephant in the room 🐘 >> Individual wellbeing solutions don’t work. They treat the symptom, not the root cause. 2. Dead fish 🐟 >> Research shows in many cases culture and leadership-related issues are keeping employees stuck in stress and burnout 3. Vomit 🤮 >> Employees are crying out for more organisational wellbeing interventions What's the solution? "For any leader looking to invest in workplace wellbeing, the message from your employees and the experts is the same: invest in your culture," Aneja says. The three most effective things leaders can do to integrate wellbeing into their culture are: Calendar resets, community building and leading loudly. UK employers face regulatory pressure and box-ticking will not suffice. You need to think holistically. But what does this look like in practice? Workplace expert Samantha Mangwana shares two specific examples: Example one: Holistic action on sexual harassment 👉 Ensure leaders are role-modelling the standards 👉 Offer training that goes beyond telling people what is unlawful 👉 Identify and analyse risks, eliminate these as far as possible 👉 Reform your report systems and upskill investigators Example two: Holistic action on mental health 👉Go beyond mental health workshops and training 👉 Develop soft skills of managers 👉Create a culture of psychological safety 👉Identify and alleviate the specific sources of stress in your workplace. #UKregulation #workerprotectionact #mentalhealth #employmentrightsbill More details linked in comments below...
