Empowerment and Healing for Female Trauma and Abuse Survivors in Scotland

About us

HSTAR is a trauma - informed organisation, we have an understanding of the impact trauma can have on female survivors who are seeking support. The impact of trauma can be subtle, insidious, or outright destructive. Trauma events affect everyone differently and requires careful intervention and well-designed therapy programmes to help the person process the trauma, supporting and empowering them. We have experienced therapists who have the knowledge and skills to make a positive difference to the lives of those who have been impacted by trauma. We promote full recognition for female victims of trauma or abuse from Scotland. We offer specialist services and therapies to help relieve the trauma, distress and isolation faced by women to recover from traumatic past experiences. One of our purposes is to advance the equality, safety, dignity, and health (both mental and physical) of female survivors of trauma or abuse, which also helps to reduce their feelings of self-blame, stigma and isolation. Most of our volunteers and some of our trustees have experienced trauma or abuse. Our trustee board is a group of 12 people, with majority from ethnic minority group. We're here to improve the choices of counselling for the most socially isolated female survivors of trauma and abuse in Scotland enabling them to become more independent, socially equal, employment-refreshed and active citizens. We also run community coffee meet ups, Stress Management and Employability programs, both led by experienced professionals with trauma approach. We also run yoga classes, as overcoming trauma through yoga can be a beneficial add on to clinical practice for treatment for complex trauma. As a new charity we have supported over 150 women in Scotland.
