Our organisational lives can be plagued with ghosts in ways that go beyond the figurative language we use: Our ‘high spirits’ can be instantly dampened when we hear organisational bad news - perhaps looking like we have 'seen a ghost'; and when projects are ceased we may 'give up the ghost’. 👻 Organisational ghosts are psychological unfinished business and can be associated with significant and unprocessed pain. Spookily, they significantly impact the culture and behaviour of the organisation and team in a way that’s not always obvious. Depending on the circumstances they can protect risky decisions or prohibit change. 🕸 Either way, there comes a time when these ghosts outlive their usefulness. Brushing them away is necessary for the team to move on in new directions. We received some 'fang-tastic' 🙈 feedback from a recent awayday facilitated for a team of senior psychologists in an NHS Mental Health, Community Health and Primary Care Trust.
