During summer, Hype & Genius held a music camp at TYX Studios to provide 15 artists, producers, musicians and engineers free professional studio space in order to collaborate and complete unreleased music. In our commitment to building an anti-exploitative creative industry, we are constantly thinking of new ways to make the industry fairer. This type of camp costs thousands of pounds to run and organisers would usually take a percentage of the master royalty if they offer these opportunities for free. Meaning that most of the time, artists without money or knowledge of how the industry works are disproportionately exploited. We allowed all of our creatives to own 100% of their music and charged £0 for this camp. We’re trying to prove that alternative and fair models work, despite what the industry might say. We had 202 applications and Khadijah (Dee) Noel personally listened to every submission to select the line up and curate and A&R these rooms. It’s just the 2 of us and both of us do this in our (very limited) spare time because we’re passionate and serious about disrupting the status quo of the creative industry. Valuable experience at the Warner Bros. Discovery event in collaboration with Hype & Genius at Warner House this week. Was great to gain first-hand insight from industry professionals in various departments, and explore how things operate at WBD from a business standpoint. I also got the chance to connect with some brilliant and likeminded individuals who share a similar passion for the Film and TV industry🎥🎞 Not often you get an opportunity like this. Grateful to Warner Bros. Discovery for facilitating this event, especially to Gloria Tergat for making it all happen! Was extremely beneficial for aspiring creatives such as myself. Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the Impact day at Warner Bros. Discovery office in London. I was able to gain knowledge of the day to day operations within several departments, including, post production, merchandising, marketing, gaming and many others. This did not only give me a chance in learning about the different aspects of the film and entertainment industry but also to network with a diverse group of aspiring filmmakers and creatives like myself. We wanted to share some of our highlights from the past 12-months! Summer School 2023 - Music Production Programme 🎹 🎶 🎚 This programme offered 15 young people over 50 hours of studio time over the course of 6 weeks and production lessons from charting and award-winning producers. Held at Leyton Sixth Form College music department with food sponsorship from Nando's UK & IRE in partnership with Shadow to Shine Some feedback from our participants: "Programme was incredibly useful - felt like a university course. The age range of eligibility to join was so good as my age often misses out on these types of opportunities." "The programme was amazing and I learnt advanced engineering skills from industry standard producers!" "The programme has been incredibly useful, enjoyable and insightful. I have enjoyed working with creatives with different levels of expertise and recieve constructive feedback on my work. I feel that vocal mixing was covered incredibly well and we were given ample time to practise and create beats." "This experience has been amazing for me. Dealing with social anxiety I would always make music alone and never really have feedback. The course has taught me a lot about the mixing process but also inspired me to create and push my sound even further. I think that the collaborative approach to the course was stellar and having different talents allowed me to make connections I wouldn't have made otherwise."

Discovery BOLD (Black Outstanding Leaders Delivering) network. The Discovery Day is targeted at Black creatives at all levels aged 18-30 who are considering careers in film and entertainment.
