BIG NEWS We are very excited to be conducting a PFAS removal study with Glasgow Caledonian University. PFAS, commonly known as 'Forever Chemicals', are thought to be present in 99% of the worlds piped water. They are very difficult to consistently remove with traditional filters or purification methods, and once they enter our bodies, they do not leave, in some cases leading to cancer. With this project we hope to prove the effectiveness of the WaterOne™ technology in removing PFAS from drinking water, and potentially provide a consistent solution to PFAS removal for homes and businesses at point of use. Stay tuned for the results.
Glasgow Caledonian University has been playing a key role in supporting IF Water💧, a local small-to-medium-sized enterprise (SME), in its mission to revolutionise drinking water purification. IF Water has developed an innovative device that takes a large-scale purification process and makes it feasible for commercial applications. The device is already making an impact, with installations in hotels and ongoing trials with the National Health Service (NHS). It is also being explored for use in the private market. Glasgow Caledonian’s involvement in the project has focused on assessing the device’s ability to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from drinking water. PFAS, often referred to as “forever chemicals” due to their persistence in the environment, are an emerging concern in water safety. While current regulations on PFAS concentrations in drinking water are limited, new guidelines are expected to emerge within the next year, making this research especially timely. 👏 Dr Kaitlin Ramsay, a consultant on the project from Glasgow Caledonian’s Department of Applied Science, said: “My involvement was to support IF Water through a sampling campaign to assess PFAS removal. The samples were collected at Glasgow Caledonian and we’re eagerly awaiting the results in the next few weeks. This work not only highlights IF Water’s ground-breaking approach but also demonstrates the University’s commitment to impactful research and collaboration with industry.” 💬
