There are many agencies, organisations and people who are doing great work with our target service users. As we now move forward, we would love to work with as many as we can to improve the outcomes for those who need it most. This week, we met with Becci from the Care Leaver Covenant and heard about the excellent work they do on behalf of the Department for Education in response to the 'Keep on Caring' White Paper (2016). They are working tirelessly, across many sectors, to advance the futures of care leavers in partnership with government, councils, and employers. We are delighted that Ignis Lodge will be working with the Care Leaver Covenant. Our community approach, typically over 12-months, combines #housing, #skills, #health and #employment to enable people to transition from short term intervention into happy, healthy and independent lives. In a recent survey, 88% of service users agreed our approach would improve their outcomes. Real people, real stories, real outcomes. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them. Our veterans may just do a job. But they do it well. They may just turn up. But they do it everytime. They may just be ordinary people. But they do extraordinary acts. Answering the call to service earns an expectation a grateful nation will have your back. For some service has come to an early end. Or has come with a toll on their health. Or has left them feeling alone. Here at Ignis Lodge; you are seen, you are heard, you are remembered. Not just today. But in the morning too. This week is #TrusteesWeek; celebrating the time, commitment and effort of nearly one million trustees across the UK. Here at Ignis Lodge, we don't have trustees. We do have non-executive directors who perform the same function. We simply couldn't deliver our mission without them. They are responsible for providing independent advice, support and challenge in helping to shape our delivery. More importantly, they role model our values; welcoming, inclusive, skillful, and encouraging. We have identified a site in Coventry which has been vacant for over two years. It is in public ownership and costs £0.5m per to secure and maintain. We would like to bring this into community use as the 'alpha site' for Ignis Lodge. How about some numbers? 🏦 We would transform over 100,000 sq ft into events and conferencing space hosting groups of between 35 and 200. 🏡 We would enable 45 homes for our transitional support centre supporting veterans, young care leavers and those experiencing crisis. ✍ We would create 85 enduring jobs in the West Midlands. 💸 We would deliver £14.9m of social value. Making sure that people are truly seen, heard and valued as members of our community. 🦸♂️ We don't need to be superheroes. Everyone has the #capacity and the #capability to make and drive changes for their community. Join those up and it has potential as a #transformation for society. Shortly, on ITV, a new documentary will air featuring #PrinceWilliam and The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales focusing on how we can end #Homelessness. In the #WestMidlands, right now, nearly 20,000 people are without stable housing. Delve a little deeper and we discover 4,400 young care leavers aged between 16 and 25 at risk as well as nearly 2,500 veterans. Any one of them could be made homeless tonight. Today is the launch of the Royal British Legion #PoppyAppeal. But what does it mean? Wearing a poppy is a personal choice and is a well-established symbol carrying a wealth of history and meaning. In the fields of the First World War, the resilient and bright red poppies flourished in spite of the events unfolding around them. The Canadian doctor,  Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, was so moved by the sight he was inspired to write the poem 'In Flanders Fields'. Today, the poppy is a humble symbol of remembrance, hope, and honouring those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. No matter your political, religious or cultural background, the humble poppy can unite us all behind this message. Ignis Lodge has been founded as a beacon of hope for those in crisis, and for whom the world has become a lonely and dark place. One of our target service groups are those veterans who have served us, our country, and protected our way of life. We will walk alongside and provide the support to happy, healthy and independent lives.
