It was great to get out and connect with other local Nottingham business leaders this morning and hear about their services and focus for Q1, plus there was cannoli 😋 (win!) 2025 is all about growing more in person connections and where better to start than right where I live. I'm excited to continue to learn more about our local East Midlands businesses as well the broader online connections. I’m often asked if there are specific sectors I support, and my answer is simple: it’s less about the sector and more about the leader. Leadership consultancy isn’t about industries, it’s about the leaders who understand the importance of investing in their teams. No matter the field, successful leaders recognise that the impact of a team is far greater when it’s built on trust, alignment, and shared purpose. When leaders put the effort into developing their teams, they create environments where collaboration thrives, and goals are achieved together. If you're a leader who believes in the power of investing in your team’s potential, but aren't sure when to start, let’s talk. Thank you Claire Bicknell I loved my first Catena Network event.

Is your leadership team aligned or just managing their own departments? When leaders focus only on their individual goals, the wider business suffers. Lack of alignment slows decision-making and creates disconnects that ripple through the organisation. Alignment is about more than sitting in the same room. It’s about working towards the same goals with clear expectations and trust. Here’s why alignment is so important: 👉 Speed up decisions by reducing friction between leaders. 👉 Make collaboration easier across teams and departments. 👉 Create accountability that drives real progress. An aligned leadership team operates as one. They focus on what’s best for the organisation, not just their own areas. Reflect on your own leadership team. Are you united around a shared purpose? Are decisions and actions coordinated? What could you do differently to build that unity? If this resonates, I’d love to discuss how to bring your leadership team together.

We are back... Leadership Lessons from Ted Lasso 🚀 2025 Season 1 Episode 7 - Be vulnerable with your team. This episode gives us one of the most heartfelt moments of the season, Ted and Rebecca bonding over their shared vulnerabilities. Ted opens up about the challenges in his personal life, and Rebecca lets her guard down, sharing her insecurities and struggles. As leaders, it’s easy to think we need to have all the answers or always project confidence. But the truth is, real connections are built when we let people see our authentic selves. **Vulnerability isn’t a weakness it’s one of the greatest strengths a leader can have.** Why is vulnerability so powerful? Because it creates trust. When we show we’re human whether it’s asking for help, or sharing something personal it makes us more relatable and approachable. And when people trust you, they’re more likely to be open, engaged, and invested in the team’s success. 🎬 Actionable steps: Here are four practical ways to incorporate vulnerability into your leadership style: 1️⃣ Admit When You Don’t Know Something: It’s okay to say, ‘I don’t know, but let’s figure it out together.’ This not only shows humility but also invites collaboration. 2️⃣ Share a Personal Story: Let your team in on a moment when you faced a challenge or made a mistake and what you learned from it. 3️⃣ Ask for Feedback and Be Open to It: Invite your team to share their honest thoughts on your leadership style or decisions. Show that you’re open to learning and improving. 4️⃣ Be Honest About Your Emotions (Within Reason): It’s okay to say when you’re feeling stressed, excited, or uncertain it humanises you. Just balance honesty with professionalism. 🎯 Challenge for you next week Find one way to show vulnerability with your team. It could be as simple as sharing a personal story, admitting a mistake, or asking for feedback. Notice how your team responds when you let them see a little more of the real you. If you’re comfortable, share your experience. 💭 Remember: Leadership isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being real. By showing vulnerability, you create an environment where trust and connection can thrive. When your team sees that you’re willing to be open, they’ll feel empowered to do the same. Stay authentic, stay open, and keep leading with heart.💜 #leadershiplessons

Do you have the courage to make tough decisions? Let’s be honest being a leader isn’t always about motivational speeches and big wins. More often, it’s about staring down a decision that keeps you up at night. The kind where every option feels like a risk, and you know it’s going to impact your team in a big way. We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Those moments where the stakes are high, and the easiest option would be to avoid making a decision altogether. But here’s the thing: Indecision is a decision. And it’s rarely the right one. The best leaders don’t shy away from the hard stuff. They: 1️⃣ Listen to diverse perspectives (even when it challenges their own). 2️⃣ Weigh the risks and potential outcomes (but don't dwell on these). 3️⃣ Make the call and own it, no matter how it plays out. I’ll admit, it’s not easy. Often as leaders we have to make the unpopular decision that is necessary for the business or team. But what I’ve learned is this: even imperfect decisions build trust and momentum when made with integrity and clarity. So, what about you? What’s the toughest decision you’ve had to make as a leader? And more importantly, what did it teach you? Here’s to making the hard calls in 2025 and doing it with courage and conviction. 💪 #Leadership #ToughDecisions #CourageInLeadership #Teamwork

Over Christmas I watched The Six Triple Eight (Highly recommended viewing if you've not already seen it, there are spoilers below!) The film tells the incredible true story of the 6888th Battalion, the only all-Black Women’s Army Corps unit deployed overseas during WWII. Led by Major Charity Adams, the battalion faced immense prejudice and the daunting task of clearing a massive backlog of undelivered mail in war-torn Europe. The whole film is powerful and there were tears shed throughout but there was one powerful scene that had me cheering at the screen. Charity Adams, had given direction and things weren't working, instead of doubling down on her approach or dictating a new plan, she gathers her team and asks a simple question: “What do you think we should do?” The question is one about listening, empowering, and trusting your team to deliver. But what I loved even more was the response from all the women, they volunteer their specific individual skills and how they could apply them in their current context. By valuing the perspectives of her soldiers, Adams leveraged the unique skills and experiences of every member. She didn’t just issue orders; she cultivated ownership, encouraging the women to rise to the challenge with creativity and determination. Her approach serves as a timeless lesson: 👉 Trust breeds success. By giving her team the autonomy to solve problems, Adams unlocked their full potential. 👉 Diversity drives results. The battalion’s collective strengths were only realised because every voice was heard. 👉 Purpose is a unifier. When your team shares a mission, the barriers between them fall away. What do you think? How do you bring out the best in your team?
