About us
We are Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in England. Our more than 15,000 staff provide acute and specialist care for over 1.3 million patients a year from our five hospitals in west London – St Mary’s, Hammersmith, Charing Cross, Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea and Western Eye. We also offer private healthcare in dedicated facilities on all our sites. With our academic partner Imperial College London, we run the NHS’s biggest biomedical research centre, translating research breakthroughs into new diagnostics and treatments. This builds on our hospitals’ long track record of innovation, benefiting our local communities as well as patients around the world. We are also a major provider of education and training for doctors, nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. We came together in a formal partnership with our three neighbouring acute trusts in 2022 to form the North West London Acute Provider Collaborative, to make the most effective use of our collective resources to provide better care, for more people, more fairly. We live by our values of being kind, expert, collaborative and aspirational and as well as our vision of better health, for life. Our Trust is a place where you can truly be yourself, whatever your background. We offer a wide range of career paths as well as opportunities to learn and develop, allowing you to achieve your best and make a real impact for patients and local communities. Last week our nursing staff came together to open a Pathway to Excellence hub at Hammersmith Hospital. 💙 Pathway to Excellence (PTE) is an international programme which recognises hospitals which demonstrate a commitment to creating a positive practice environment where nurses excel. It involves improvements and initiatives focused on nursing wellbeing, safety, leadership, decision-making, quality and professional development. In July 2024, we were the first acute hospital in London awarded prestigious PTE designation for nursing at Charing Cross Hospital, and this new hub marks the start of our journey to achieve designation across all our hospitals. Two of our nurses – Susanna Galloppa and Maryam Hussain – received DAISY awards as part of the ceremony in recognition of their outstanding and compassionate care. And Michael Underwood, senior nurse, Pathway to Excellence lead and DAISY co-ordinator, was also presented with our first-ever DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Here’s to more milestones, more recognition, and more excellence in nursing! 🚀

"Our services are made up of multidisciplinary teams, where every individual adds value with a unique set of skills and expertise. When I think of protected characteristics such as race, gender or sexual orientation, I don’t see why any differences between staff should be viewed as anything other than positive. "It is through embracing these differences – and by choosing to be curious – that we can find more value in learning from each other’s experiences and building a workplace culture where everybody is able to thrive." Here's a quote from our latest blog with Jerome Allen, GP liaison officer. Read the full blog via our website ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d9G7xcaT #WeAreTheNHS #Diversity #Inclusion

Earlier this month we said a fond farewell to John who retired after 17 years at our Trust. 💙 John [second left] has been instrumental in shaping our gastroenterology services and has acted as a mentor to many – he will be missed by us all. He shared: “I chose a career in gastroenterology as it allowed me to combine general medicine with practical endoscopic procedures. It has been a highly rewarding specialty, enriched by the opportunity to work alongside wonderful colleagues. “I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone I’ve worked with over the years. I will deeply miss my medical, allied health professionals and administrative colleagues, whose dedication to patient care and camaraderie have made coming to work so enjoyable. “I have served as the Director of the West London Bowel Cancer Screening Centre at Charing Cross hospital since its inception in 2007 and have been an endoscopy advisor to the NHS bowel cancer screening programme at both regional and national levels;– alongside teaching, these have been two career highlights for sure! “What’s next? I have begun pursuing my long-term ambition of doing a mathematics degree and I am also working on improving my golf handicap!” If you want to find a career as fulfilling as John, view our latest vacancies ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gNESr7uS #WeAreTheNHS

Fareed is a consultant in Sexual Health and HIV at Jefferiss Clinic which is based at St Mary’s Hospital. This #HIVTestingWeek, he has a powerful message to share: "In the past HIV and AIDS were words that incited fear, hate and discrimination. "People diagnosed with HIV in the 1980s and early 1990s may have only been given a few years to live. But today people can live long healthy lives if they are on treatment and people taking effective HIV treatment cannot pass on HIV through sex. "Aligned with our commitment to being a truly anti-discriminatory and anti-racist organisation, we are committed to creating a stigma-free environment where staff and patients living with HIV feel safe, respected, and supported. "It is important to get a HIV test as soon as possible if you think you might have HIV. Even if you do not have any symptoms you can still have a test. You will be offered a HIV test when you attend our sexual health clinic at Jefferiss." For too many people living with HIV, stigma is still a reality. Together we can change that.
