LOOK AT THIS. REALLY LOOK. This isn’t just some historical illustration. This was real life. This was the cost of the world we live in today. This was Black flesh chained, stacked like cargo, breathing in the stench of death and fear, all so that economies could boom, wealth could be built, and systems of power could be cemented. I am biracial. My mother is white. My father is Black. I exist because somewhere down the line, the unthinkable happened. Because survival happened. Because despite the brutal attempts to erase, break, and dehumanize, my ancestors endured. And yet, we’re still being told to “move on.” To “stop bringing up the past.” To “just work harder” in a system that was never built for Black and Brown people to thrive. I will NEVER move on. I will NEVER stop speaking the truth. And if this image makes you uncomfortable—GOOD. It should. Because the echoes of this horror are still felt today. In every institution, in every disparity, in every denial of justice. Honor the past by acknowledging it. Sit with the discomfort. Learn. And if you're someone who benefits from the systems built on the backs of these men, women, and children—ask yourself what you’re doing to dismantle it. Because history isn’t dead. It’s woven into every part of our present. Some want us to forget. The foundation of American wealth was built on forced labor, stolen labor, and the deliberate exclusion of Black people from economic opportunities for generations. That’s not an opinion. That’s a fact. And that economic exclusion didn’t end with slavery. It continued through redlining, Jim Crow, hiring discrimination, and a thousand other ways Black and Brown people were kept from generational wealth. So when we talk about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), we’re not talking about “wokeness.” We’re talking about addressing centuries of deliberate exclusion. And yet—NOW, in 2025—the federal government is rolling back DEI initiatives. Corporations are quietly backing away from their “commitments” made after George Floyd’s murder. CEOs are pretending that equity is some kind of unnecessary luxury instead of the foundation of an ethical, forward-thinking business. Let me be clear: DEI isn’t about “special treatment.” It’s about leveling a playing field that has been rigged from the beginning. It’s about ensuring that leadership isn’t just a recycled club of the same faces making decisions for the rest of us. It’s about making sure the next generation doesn’t have to fight the same damn battles over and over again just to be seen, heard, and valued. DEI isn’t dead. It’s evolving. The question is: Are YOU evolving with it? Or are you comfortable benefiting from a system that was built on the backs of those who never had a choice? Because the past isn’t past. It’s present. And it’s on us to decide what future we’re building. #TruthHurts #BlackHistoryIsNow #NeverForget #DEI #diversityequityinclusion
