About us

InfraCo Africa seeks to alleviate poverty by mobilising investment into sub-Saharan infrastructure projects. We do this by funding teams of experienced project developers or by investing directly into projects which need the financial commitment and leverage that InfraCo Africa can bring. Our support reduces the risks and costs associated with early stage project development, ensuring that a project develops from concept to bankable investment opportunity. InfraCo Africa is part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG). Established in 2004, we are managed as a private company although funded by the governments of Austria (ADA), the Netherlands (DGIS), Switzerland (SECO) and the UK (FCDO). Our projects have mobilised over US$2 billion of investment and provided new infrastructure for approximately 13 million people, improving living standards and powering economic growth in sub-Saharan Africa.

  • The Private Infrastructure Development Group company InfraCo Africa Ltd (InfraCo) signed an agreement to sell its 25% stake in Golomoti JCM Solar Corporation Ltd to Old Mutual Infrastructure Investment Trust Fund (Malawi) which sits within Old Mutual Investment Group Malawi’s Alternative Investments capability. Old Mutual Malawi’s involvement will be beneficial in reducing currency exchange risk on the project whilst attracting future investment into the country’s renewable energy sector.    Speaking after the signing, Ravi Dhanani, PIDG Senior Asset Manager for InfraCo, said, “We are excited to be engaging with Old Mutual Malawi, which is committed to Responsible Investing, and to supporting Malawi’s renewable energy sector as part of its diversified infrastructure portfolio.” Mr Dhanani continued, “This transaction epitomises PIDG’s project development offering – InfraCo – and aligns well with our Group-wide strategy to unlock new sources of funding for sustainable infrastructure. We use our public funding to de-risk infrastructure projects, working with private sector partners to develop them to the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and social governance, and business integrity; just as we have done here in Malawi together with JCM Power. We then seek to sell our stake in these profitable assets to reputable investors such as Old Mutual Malawi – enabling us to recycle our Owner funding into the development of new, #climateresilientinfrastructure across Africa.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eqRZkQWM Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, SECO Economic Cooperation and Development

The recently concluded M300 Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania has provided a pivotal platform for driving forward the goal of connecting 300 million Africans by 2030. The Summit brought together key stakeholders from governments, the private sector, and development partners, all united in their commitment to achieving this audacious target. AMDA CEO, ‘Lamide Niyi-Afuye Niyi-Afuye, and COO, John Ouko, were in Dar es Salaam to lend a strong voice for the private sector. ⚡ The Role of African Governments in Driving Change African governments are leading the charge by committing to #Mission300 through Energy Compacts, which will serve as the blueprint for scaling up energy access across the continent. 🌱 The 5 Key Pillars of M300 The success of M300 will be driven by five key pillars: ⚡ Generation and Transmission Expansion - Increasing energy generation capacity. ⚡ Financially Viable Utilities - Ensuring that utilities are economically sustainable. ⚡ Private Sector Participation - Creating a conducive environment for private companies to invest. ⚡ DRE and clean cooking scale up - Providing DRE solutions and clean cooking solutions to remote communities. ⚡ Regional Integration - Strengthening energy connectivity across borders. 📊 Strong Commitment from Governments & Development Partners 12 governments have pledged commitments, with DRE solutions like minigrids expected to provide up to 50% of the energy needed. Over $50 billion in investment has been committed, including support from African Development Bank Group, The World Bank, AFD, AIIB, OPEC, IsDB, AGF, GEAPP, The Rockefeller Foundation, and IFC. 📈 AMDA’s Commitment to Accountability and Tracking At AMDA, we are fully committed to supporting this ambitious effort with transparency and accountability. To ensure meaningful progress, we will work with our members and partners to systematically track the following key performance indicators: ✅ Volume: We will monitor the amounts committed versus those actually disbursed, ensuring that pledges translate into real investments. ✅ Speed: With only six years remaining to achieve these targets, we will track the pace of capital deployment to ensure timely action. ✅ Efficiency: We will identify and promote best-practice processes that enhance the efficient allocation of capital. Additionally, we will facilitate intra-governmental dialogue to address bottlenecks and improve coordination. ✅ Impact: Delivering sustainable electricity to 300 million Africans by 2030 requires connecting an average of 50 million people per year. We will rigorously track progress to ensure this goal remains on course. AMDA will work closely with its members and other stakeholders to ensure robust data collection, transparent reporting, and standardization of processes across the sector. This data-driven approach will provide clear insights into progress and hold all stakeholders accountable for results.

We are excited to partner with Infrastructure Asia to host an exclusive event on ‘Unlocking #SustainableInfrastructure financing with innovative credit guarantee solutions’! Infrastructure development is pivotal for bolstering economic growth and promoting equality in Indonesia. Recent years have seen the government prioritise this sector, resulting in significant improvements in both the quantity and quality of infrastructure. However, further action is essential to enhance Indonesia’s infrastructure competitiveness on a global scale, particularly in addressing barriers to accessing private capital for sustainable projects. To advance this agenda, we will be launching the GuarantCo 'Indonesia Market Report: Credit Guarantees' at the event next week in #Jakarta, #Indonesia. The report will be available to download following the event as a practical resource, providing insights and strategies to engage and empower #BlendedFinance players in this critical mission.

Founder & CEO Africa GreenCo/GreenCo Power Services Limited

Today marks a truly special milestone - TEN (10) years since Africa GreenCo was first conceived as a 3 page power point presentation inspired by late Dr Lawrence Musaba from the Southern African Power Pool and submitted to Bloomberg's FiRE competition headed back then by Michael Liebreich and driven by William Young. Looking back on this journey fills me with gratitude, pride, humility, and awe for what we’ve built together. Ten years ago, GreenCo was just an idea, met with skepticism by many who said it was impossible. But many of you believed in the vision and gave me the courage to keep going. Thank you to: CFA Kaushik Ray Ryan Anderson Jose Maria Mejias Anne Baldock Malcolm Bruce Steve McCauley Helena McLeod Rene Tobias Meyer, CSP Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell MP supporting the vision since the first idea was born and for granting it your name and stamp of approval. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind: intense, challenging, and at times, all-consuming. Yet today, GreenCo is a thriving company operating in Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Namibia, with expansion into the DRC. Together, we’ve begun transforming how electricity is delivered across the region, working in collaboration with our key partners IFU The Private Infrastructure Development Group and all SAPP state utilities but especially ZESCO Limited with whom we started our journey. This success belongs to all who’ve been part of this journey and especially to my co-founders with whom the idea was turned into reality - my right hand Cathy Oxby Lovemore Chilimanzi Johannes Baake and Pug Bennet, our incredible team of over 30 passionate individuals, and everyone who believed in us when others doubted. What we’re building is bigger than any of us. It’s about creating a future where sustainable energy is a reality for this region. During the operationalisation phase a special thank you goes to our incubators The Rockefeller Foundation Convergence Blended Finance P4G Partnerships and SADC Secretariat. In particular to: Saadia Madsbjerg Adam Connaker Mamadou Biteye OBE Christopher Knowles Abyd Karmali James Bond Crispin Holliday Rentia van Tonder Robyn McGuckin Joan M. Larrea Andrew Gray Andrew Herscowitz Sakkie Leimecke Christopher Egerton-Warburton Harry Guinness (there are so many more I've had on this list (about 30 people) but apparently there is a limit to how many people I can mention so I had to delete without prioritisation! For the past decade, this mission has consumed me, often at the expense of time with my family without whom this would not have become a reality - thank you John Shields. To all of you who supported us when the road seemed impossible—thank you. Your belief fueled this journey. Here’s to the next 10 years of building something bigger than ourselves together with Wezi Gondwe Lion Mashiri and Pius Kasolo and the rest of the amazing GreenCo team
