On this day back in 1972, Atari introduced Pong – an early arcade game that would kick off the video game industry as we know it. Here's a fun story: Nolan Bushnell, the Atari founder, decided to test the first Pong machine at a local bar. But he quickly got a call from the owner, saying the machine had broken down. Bushnell returned to the bar, only to find that the Pong machine hadn’t broken down... It was just jammed with coins from eager players! Talk about an instant hit. Pong became the world’s first commercially successful video game, and 10,000 machines were installed within the first four months of it being released. Atari then went on to become a leader in the video game world throughout the 1980s. For business owners, this story is a great reminder of how one creative spark can set an entire industry on fire! I’ll admit it, I love the Snipping Tool in Windows 11. It’s underrated. And I’ve heard it’s about to get even better… One of its newest AI-powered features, OCR (optical character recognition), lets you take text directly from images. And it may soon have its own keyboard shortcut – “Windows Key + Shift + T”. This shortcut would be great for quickly pulling text from screenshots, making it a powerful productivity tool for businesses. Imagine capturing important information, like data from reports or client emails, without having to type it all out. What a time-saver! Currently, to use OCR in the Snipping Tool, you have to take a few different steps. With the shortcut, it would be as easy as quickly hitting a few keys. While the keyboard shortcut is still in testing, it’s clear to see how Microsoft are making everyday tasks simpler with smart AI integration in Windows 11. Here’s some more big news from Windows 11: Microsoft is giving Notepad a major productivity boost with a new AI-powered “rewrite” feature. When you use Notepad, you’ll be able to select any text, choose “Rewrite”, and the app will give you three alternative versions to choose from. Need your text to be shorter, or maybe more formal? You can even customise the length and tone. The update could be a great tool for businesses, allowing you to quickly polish up text without spending lots of time on rewrites. Of course, you’ll need to give it a quick check, since AI-generated content isn’t perfect. But it’s still a handy feature. Plus, you won’t have to worry about losing your original text. Notepad saves each version, so you can always go back to the previous text if needed. This feature is still in testing with Windows Insiders, but it has great potential to make writing those daily reports and emails easier. New malware alert! A new type of malicious software called Pronsis Loader has been discovered. What makes this one unique is that it’s able to get around traditional security software by using a lesser-known programming language. The language it uses is called JPHP, which is a version of PHP (a language usually used for websites). It’s rarely seen in malware, so security systems don’t recognise it as easily. Because Pronsis Loader disguises itself as legitimate software, it can be tougher to detect. And if it sneaks into your system, it can download ransomware, spyware, or other harmful software – leaving your business data vulnerable. Malware like this can leave you facing serious consequences, including data breaches and significant financial loss. You should consider using advanced security measures, like behaviour-based detection. This doesn’t just look at the software’s code; it also watches for unusual behaviour, which can help spot malware before it causes damage.
