About us

In a world where the global environment is changing, there is also a global challenge. A challenge that sets for the current and future generations the need to come up with new solutions that would allow a transition to a new sustainable global community. To tackle this need, a deep and serious reflection should be taken at international level, a reflection that should not exclude the young people of today, as they will be the generation of tomorrow. To ensure a clean and secure energy supply is one of the major challenges to achieve global sustainability, and it is here where the renewable energies are called to play a key role, providing a clean, sustainable based energy source. Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) includes offshore wind, wave energy, tidal energy and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC). OREs are amongst the renewables with the greatest potential, and they are expected to provide a substantial part of the future energy mix, (e.g. satisfying the 50% of the European electricity demand by 2050), becoming even more relevant for coastal and island communities. The International Network on Offshore Renewable energy (INORE) is an association that seeks to support the development of an active and connected network of researchers from around the world. The main objective of INORE is to promote and advance the education of Offshore Renewable Energies (e.g. offshore wind, wave, tidal barrage, tidal stream, and OTEC energy technologies), especially among the young professionals community. To make this possible INORE, links together an international and interdisciplinary active group of researchers and other professionals working out on issues related to offshore renewable energy.

  • 🌬🌊 Ensuring that the necessary technologies and infrastructures are ready to support the growing demand for offshore renewable energy is of the utmost importance right now. 🥼💡 The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is the UK’s leading technology innovation and research centre for offshore renewable energy, bridging the gaps between research and industry and driving the development of the UK's journey to net zero. 🇬🇧 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 As this year's INORE symposium was in Aberdeen, UK, we were especially grateful for the support from the ORE Catapult. As a general sponsor, they offered a visit to their brand-new test facility in Aberdeen, the Floating Wind Innovation Centre (FLOWIC). It was a great experience to see the cables and anchors testing facility close up and having Joseph McCabe presenting and Harvey North giving us a tour of the test rig. Thank you to both for their support and patient question answering.👌 🎉🎊 We were so pleased to have our very own EU Event coordinator Vivien Maertens and representative from the ORE Catapult join us at this year’s INORE Symposium to help organise and also present at the site visit of FLOWIC. 🙏💪 We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult team for their invaluable contributions to the renewable energy field and for their generous support, which made this event possible. #OffshoreRenewableEnergy #ORECatapult #FLOWIC #Aberdeen #NetZero #MarineEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #INORE #Collaboration ⏰⁉ Interested in collaborating on next year’s INORE events? • 💡 As the demand for offshore renewable energy grows, how can we ensure that the necessary technologies and infrastructures are ready to support this shift? We were so pleased to have Tina Ortega from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) join us at this year's INORE Symposium to answer that question. NREL is at the forefront of renewable energy innovation, and Tina's presentation focused on key aspects of offshore wind and marine energy development. As one of INORE's long-standing financial #sponsors, NREL has consistently provided crucial funding that supports our initiatives, helping to advance INORE's mission of fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among emerging researchers in the offshore renewable energy sector. During her presentation, Tina highlighted multiple NREL's areas of expertise, such as: ➡ Offshore Wind Techno-Economics: NREL's ongoing efforts to model and reduce the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for offshore wind technologies, showcasing some of NREL's ongoing projects. ➡ Marine Energy: NREL’s leadership in validating and deploying marine energy systems through its dedicated R&D, technology validation and deployment and commercialization teams. ➡NREL's supported software: OpenFAST, WEC-SIM, Small-WEC Analysis and System Advisor Model (SAM) are some of the leading software enabling Marine Energy development and breakthroughs. ➡ Collaboration Opportunities: Tina emphasized the potential for partnerships in technology validation, open-water testing, and workforce development through NREL's Teamer program. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Tina and the NREL team for their invaluable contributions to the renewable energy field and for their generous support, which made this event possible. #MarineEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Innovation #INORE #Collaboration Interested in collaborating on next year's INORE events? • 🌊 As the development of ocean energy technologies continues to expand, how can we leverage international cooperation to accelerate progress in harnessing marine resources for renewable energy? At the 2024 European Symposium, Prof. Henry Jeffrey, OES Executive Committee delegate, shared insights into the IEA Ocean Energy System Technology Collaboration Programme—an intergovernmental initiative operating under the International Energy Agency. Since its launch in 2001, OES has been a driving force in promoting cooperation among nations to advance ocean energy research, development, and deployment. IEA Ocean Energy Systems continues to be the main and recurring #sponsor of INORE in 2024, supporting not only our previous European Symposium and North American activities but also funding the OES-Blue Energy Collaborative Scholarship through INORE's network. In his talk, Prof. Jeffrey discussed: 🌍 The essential role of global collaboration in overcoming technical and regulatory challenges to unlock the potential of ocean-based energy sources, including waves, tides, and ocean thermal energy conversion. 👨🎓How OES fosters a network of experts from 25 member countries, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and best practices to accelerate innovation in the sector. 🌊The key contributions and mechanisms by which OES influences global decision-making on ocean energy-related policies. We extend our gratitude to Prof. Jeffrey for his thought-provoking contributions, and for his and OES's continued support in helping to grow the INORE European Symposium and drive innovation in offshore energy technologies. #OceanEnergy #GlobalCollaboration #SustainableFuture #RenewableInnovation #OffshoreWind #Innovation #INORE #Collaboration Interested in partnering or supporting next year's symposium?
