My independent London business of the day is Instant Impact, co-founded by the brilliant Felix Mitchell and based in Southwark (Southwark Council). Felix and his team have created an AI-powered service that helps identify candidates for new jobs and cuts down time, effort and failure in the HR world. They help companies outsource all or part of the hiring process, manage part-time employees or contractors, and use AI to streamline and improve processes. They offer innovative services like "on-demand" recruitment which reflect how businesses and the workplace have changed. Happy customers include Ipsos, Survitec Group Ltd. and National Centre for Social Research. So far they have helped recruit thousands of people across 34 countries. It was a pleasure to visit Felix at their cool offices in Borough and hear his passion for his business as well as his pride in our city. I'm looking forward to working with him and other businesses in this sector as we develop our Inclusive Talent Strategy for London. The business services sector; talent and skills; and AI are at the heart of the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and London Councils Growth Plan which is published this coming Thursday.

It's not every day that the Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Growth comes to visit. It was an honour to welcome Howard Dawber to Instant Impact's London office to talk about the future of talent in the best city in the world. In a news environment that is dominated by negativity about the UK economy it was a welcome change to talk about how much London has going for us. 📈 London grew by 1.2% last year, compared to just 0.1% in the rest of the country. This is going to accelerate to 1.9% growth this year and 2.2% in 2026. That's one hell of a rosier picture than the rest of the country (fodder for another post I think) 🦾 One of the strongest business services sectors in the world. I'm proud that Instant Impact is be a key part of the future generation of Talent Solutions businesses, proving just how innovative London-based business can be. 🌍 London is the capital of AI in Europe and has the 3rd most AI start-ups in the world. We have enormous advantages, the NHS has the world's largest data set for understanding disease and patient outcomes, we can't drive for 5 minutes without coming across a leading world university, and our population is highly educated and data literate. That's a recipe for success. Here are some other key stats for you: 🥼We have 6 million sqft of lab space - up from well under 1 million. 📽️ A thriving film, fintech, and creative sector (I already knew that) 💫 We've won the World's Best Cities leading city award 10 years in a row.
