EVENT: Our Senior Researcher Jess Redmond is at the Understanding Communities conference at the People's History Museum, hearing insights from six research projects, funded by Nuffield Foundation and The British Academy - all conducted in and with communities across the UK. Joining Lizzy Hawkins from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and Sheffield Hallam University's Sarah Pearson, Jess says: “These research projects deepen our understanding of why community infrastructure - in the form of people, spaces and organisations - is vital to strong, thriving places.” Noting the importance of social infrastructure, Jess identifies three important factors: ❔ CURIOSITY: Places and activities that support curiosity across difference 🤝 TRUST: Having a shared vision can help build trust between local government and community organisations ⌛ CAPACITY: Recognising the time it can take to do this work well Find out more at https://lnkd.in/enF9NYgb

OPINION: Great read on youth participation in Wonkhe today 👏 Sharing ‘Enhancing the Student Civic Experience’ – a new report we collaborated on with the Civic University Network, UPP Foundation and the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) - the article says the report ‘is a timely wakeup call to all who work in and fund our universities to ensure they are #TrulyCivic'. It also highlights timely findings from our #VolunteeringJourneys research, sharing: ‘Although university students typically engage in civic life to a greater extent than their non-university educated peers, they are still significantly less likely to vote or volunteer than older citizens’.
