About us

Welcome to the Institute of Carpenters – the home for professionals working in wood trades. The Institute was established in 1890, to help maintain standards and skills at a time when traditional skills were being lost. Over a century later, we’re still committed to upholding the highest standards of our historic craft and membership is now open to all craftspeople working in wood trades (e.g. carpenters, joiners, furniture makers and shop fitters). If you work in wood trades, membership could be for you. There are the usual member benefits you would expect as well as a discount on Which? Trusted Traders, discounts on websites, branded work wear and printing, trade specific insurance packages, 10% discounts on accountancy services, and a 25% discount at HANDS HQ. You’ll also get four magazines a year, CPD opportunities and regional membership and networking groups as well as free listing on our website. Visit our website at www.instituteofcarpenters.com to find out more about Institute of Carpenters' membership. If you are a member of the public looking for a carpenter, search our directory of members working in wood trades in your area at www.instituteofcarpenters.com/find. We only approve members with relevant qualifications and proven track record and it's all backed up by references.
