The Institute of Event Management is the professional body for all those who create and deliver opportunities for people to participate in an event to meet audience and stakeholder needs to achieve economic, professional, social or community objectives. Routes to recognition are via accreditation of an existing qualification, experience [taking account of work roles and years of service] or on the job training eg apprenticeship. The Institute will provide access to a body of knowledge and opportunities for continuing professional development. An Events Sector matrix has been prepared to provide information on the scale and scope of the sector to enable a better understanding for all who may have to organise events. The Institute will be an important resource of information on all aspects of events.

Everything comes back to #purpose 🙏 Having fully settled back into 'work mode,' I’ve spent time catching up with the Events Apprenticeships team—and wow, there’s been a lot happening! Richard Waddington has been on the move, passionately advocating for everything #apprenticeships, making sure the conversation is heard loud and clear 📣 The team also had a productive discussion with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) about #prioritysectors within the #visitoreconomy. These discussions emphasize the importance of viewing #tourism, #hospitality, and #events as ONE sector, a vital step in ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve ❗ As @Baroness Jacqui Smith, Minister for Skills, aptly stated: "Apprenticeships are vital to our mission to grow the economy, and to breaking down the barriers to opportunity for young people and adults alike." This has always been at the heart of the Events Apprenticeships mission, and it’s exciting to see these priorities gaining traction in #Government. Personally, my journey with Events Apprenticeships started nearly two years ago as a volunteer. Watching it evolve into a key driver of #opportunity and #growth, as highlighted by Skills England, has been truly inspiring. Our MSc. Events Management students who graduated tonight are keen to obtain their first role, and they all have some industry experience. If you have any entry level events roles available, please let me know. Most of the students are Bristol based, a couple are living in Exeter and some of them are willing to relocate.

Yet, for this vibrant sector to thrive, it must be formally recognised as a government priority sector—alongside tourism and hospitality. In recent discussions with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), industry leaders stressed the critical role events play in the economic and visitor economy and highlighted key challenges and opportunities: - Economic Impact: The events industry is a powerhouse for growth, innovation, and tourism. - Workforce Development: Apprenticeships are vital for cultivating talent, but barriers must be addressed to unlock their full potential. - Diversity & Inclusion: Creating pathways to welcome everyone into this exciting industry. - Advocacy for Policy Support: Ensuring the events sector’s unique needs are addressed within the broader visitor economy.
