We've just finished preparing a 2-hour #keynote that an Integrity HSE senior leader will deliver for a client in Qatar for their global summit in January. It is an exploration of #performance psychology and #humanfactors techniques that Integrity HSE use when safety coaching. It draws on #research and applied practise from sport #psychology that we have proven to create high-level performance in every work environment, both onshore and #offshore. The presentation draws on worked examples from FC Barcelona, Liverpool Football Club, Real Madrid C.F., نادي السد الرياضي | Al-Sadd Sports Club, and Newcastle United Football Club and identifies the performance influencing factors (PIFs) used by those clubs. It then shows the critical role that those PIFs play in business #success (Apple), and also identifies how their absence can often amplify vulnerabilities that lead to business failures (Blockbuster). After an interactive #workshop toward the end of the keynote, and prior to a final summary, the same PIFs are reverse engineered into 4 #incidents (Piper Alpha; Deepwater Horizon; #ExxonValdez; Mumbai High). Techniques are then applied to dilute confirmation #bias, and #delegates are challenged to consider if those events would have occurred if the same PIFs were applied. This keynote more than fulfils the brief, and relates to common ground that is understood by the majority of delegates (football), and made so everyone can appreciate the #strength of the content. Integrity HSE's Operations Director Darrell Lines (pictured, right) spent Friday night with Josh Monro (sporting a brilliant #Christmas jumper) of Aberdeen Squash and Racketball Club 🏸. The pair inspected the Integrity HSE court and Darrell got to hear about its good use throughout 2024. Affiliated to both #Grampian Squash and Scottish Squash, the club has 250 members who enjoy #friendly games 🤝 up to men’s and women’s #teams who compete in the National League 🏆 It also houses the Mannofield Bar and Function Suite 🍻 which shows live #sport ⚽🏉 on state-of-the-art #HD projectors, making it one of #Aberdeen's best places to watch sport. Whilst many #managers 'feel' they have have confidence in both, that ebbs away when they considers the #data (see below) versus what is at stake if things go wrong: 🤝🤝🤝 "I would like to have confidence in my people" 🤝🤝🤝 Cifas (2023) found 10% of the UK workforce know of someone who has lied on their CV; with Verify Online (2024) finding 40% suspect a colleague of CV fraud. Lie Detector Test UK (2024) confirmed 33% of employees lied on their CV, whilst Care Check Ltd (2024) put that number at a whopping 51%! 🤝🤝🤝 "I would like to have confidence in my #supplychain" 🤝🤝🤝 The International Accounting Bulletin reported a 13% rise in #fraud; with BDO UK LLP stating 42% of business endured procurement-related fraud in the past 5 years. OECD - OCDE say 30%-50% engage in misrepresentation (false certifications, etc.) within tenders, whilst The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) say 1 in 5 companies misrepresent in the #tender process. 🤝🤝🤝 "I want confidence in my people and my #supplychain" 🤝🤝🤝 Now you have seen the data, how much trust do you still have in those you rely on? This year will be remember for many positive things in #healthandsafety, as well as some notable #legal cases. The largest fine in 2024 was issued to a #utilities company following an event that left a 50-year-old father-of-two with life-changing injuries (40% burns). The injured party was quoted as saying, "I was in peak physical condition...probably the reason I survived". The Crown Court heard the person had been left hanging in a #harness on a #pylon after coming into contact with 33000 volts, before being #rescued by colleagues. The Health and Safety Executive found the company failed to plan and assess #risk, and was quoted saying, “If a #safe system of work had been in place before the #incident, his injuries would have been prevented". The utilities company in question was fined £3.2 million. Another of Integrity HSE's #healthandsafety coaching team was working with North Sea offshore crews today, and the feedback has been brilliant 📣📣📣 That is not a surprise when you consider that Jillian Thomson, who is a brilliant professional in every way, really is at the top of her game ✨✨✨ Jillian has had a wonderfully interesting career (haven't all the best people).
