  • While not a surprise to many in the sector, a new report from techUK details the impacts of heatwaves, flooding, and power outages which are jeopardising our data centres. These facilities are now recognised as “critical national infrastructure,” highlighting the urgent need for climate resilience planning. Discover more in techUK’s report “Future-Proofing Digital Infrastructure: Climate Resilience in the Data Centre Sector”. • According to Deloitte's mid-range estimates, USA data centre power load could grow from 29 GW to 75 GW by 2030. The hope is that renewables will not only cover the provision of this increase but also lots more too! "By the end of 2024, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) expects wind capacity to rise to 153.8 GW, up by 6.5 GW from a year earlier. Meanwhile, it expects solar to rise by a record-breaking 38.4 GW to 128.2 GW, and battery storage to rise by a record-breaking 14.9 GW to 30.9 GW" https://lnkd.in/gkyZ8Hyb #datacentres #energyinnovation #sustainabletech

  • On average, not including AI which is much higher, IT infrastructure drives 65% of a data centre’s energy draw, and the embodied carbon in a single rack server easily exceeds multiple metric tonnes (including RAM and storage devices). Historically, measuring this impact and demonstrating improvement on a case-by-case basis has been a challenge. We’re changing that with our award-winning energy efficiency solution. Much though we are still a little bit away from Christmas I wanted to pop up our “Interact 2024 Wrapped” Not without its challenges, It’s been a really good year for Interact and Cedar and I’m very proud of our team. For Interact and Cedar many of the squad finish on Friday for a well-deserved Christmas break. So lets celebrate a few key milestones before they sign off... ✅ We’ve added 4 lovely humans - Willem van Burk, Nour Rteil, Stephen Clement Bryony Cook ✅ Onboarded 9 global charities with completely free erasure and diagnostics software ✅ Published two academic journals on circular economy ✅ Helped our partners re-use 245,000 Storage Devices ✅ Provided consultancy, projects and product life extension that helped prevent 49,998 metric tonnes of carbon ✅ Keynoted 3 conferences and delivered talks and panels at over 60 events ✅ Launched multiple new products, solutions and circular consultancy offerings into the global market Lots to be happy with! Merry Christmas

  • The transition to a circular economy in storage is not just a sustainable choice but an economic imperative. Data storage and its environmental impact (and potential) is huge for data centres. Closing the gap between reusable storage drives (87%) and those that can be reused (10%) requires collaboration across industry, policy, and technology. By embracing refurbished HDDs and SSDs, the data centre storage industry can meet the surging demand for data capacity while promoting sustainability and resilience. • Our latest academic research, “Data Explosion, Circular Solution: How Refurbished Drives Can Bridge the Storage Supply Gap”, has been published in the European Journal of Business and Management. This study dives deep into the economic case for circular solutions in the rapidly growing storage market. With the global demand for data storage outpacing manufacturing capacities, refurbished drives offer a viable and sustainable alternative. • Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Stephen Clement, who has joined us as Lead Engineer - AI and Simulation! Here is a little bit about the newest member of our team: He is a proud dad to two little adventurers, aged 4 and 6. When he’s not at work, you’ll often find him exploring the Yorkshire countryside with his family (weather permitting, of course!). Steve is also a fan of cooking and video games when he gets the chance to unwind! Professionally, Steve brings a wealth of experience in research and technology, with a stellar background in both academia and industry since completing his PhD. We’re thrilled that he’ll be bringing his UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to Interact, where he’ll continue his innovative work in; Digital Twins, Simulation and AI! His current focus is on transforming the data centre sector, exploring how these technologies can boost productivity and efficiency while driving sustainability and reducing environmental impact. Steve, we’re excited to have you on board and can’t wait to see the innovative solutions you’ll help us create! #WelcomeToTheTeam #Innovation #DigitalTwins #AI #Sustainability #InteractLife

  • Data Centres can have a big role in demonstrating the value of circular economy to the global community. Circular methods deliver significant benefits to: The environment Local communities The businesses themselves Key areas to look at are: Hardware - Configuration, capability, utilisation Re-use - infrastructure, land, materials Refurbishment - Use longer where appropriate - save cost, reduce environmental impact Every one of these decisions will reduce TCO, decrease negative impacts and de-risk supply!

  • By 2030, the Dutch central government aims to emit 55% less emissions and by 2050 the Netherlands must be climate neutral. An important initiative is the Lower Energy Acceleration Program (LEAP), which aims to improve the energy efficiency of ICT services. DICTU is one of the largest ICT service providers within the Dutch government and we have just released our case study on the work we have done together in the Dutch Public Sector. Read the blog to look at both the high level details but also some specifics on projects: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eZXF-s5a
