🌍 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day: Time to prioritise obesity
As the world works toward Universal Health Coverage, obesity prevention and management services must be fully integrated into UHC frameworks. With 1 billion people projected to live with obesity by 2030, addressing this crisis is essential to achieving equitable, inclusive health systems.
Obesity is a leading driver of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, yet millions face barriers to care, including stigma, lack of diagnosis, and unaffordable treatments.
💡 What must be done?
✅Transform health systems to respond to the obesity epidemic.
✅Integrate obesity prevention and management services into primary healthcare.
✅Train health professionals in inclusive, person-centred care.
✅Invest in public health initiatives to reduce obesity rates and its economic burden.
✅ Ensure equitable, affordable access to obesity care for all, leaving no one behind.
By including obesity in UHC, we can reduce the burden of obesity and related NCDs while strengthening health systems worldwide. Let’s act now.
