Britain's cyber security chief warned on Tuesday of a rise in hostile activity in the country's cyberspace, with the number of incidents handled by officials rising by 16% in 2024 compared to a year ago https://lnkd.in/ecbEdrbC I've worked with businesses over the years to help them bolster their Cyber Security, before starting such engagement I ask: • Do you know exactly what cloud applications are used by your users? • Is your IT Department aware of the cloud applications used by your users? • Can you confidently say that Multi-Factor authentication is enabled in these applications, and that you know where the data is situated, and if it's encrypted at rest? • Do you conduct due diligence on your suppliers prior to using their systems / software and can you evidence this? • How are you alerted when an application or system is used by an unauthorised user? • Are the applications referenced in your off-boarding documentation, and can you be sure that past employees no longer have access to your data? • Does your business track opportunity for improvement in reference to the security of your systems, and can you report on any improvements made? • Do you users know how to differentiate between a good and bad email? • Do your users run under the context of an administrator and do you adhere to the principle of least privilege? • Can you list your IT assets, do you know who they are assigned to or who is responsible for looking after them (If you don't know what assets exist, how can you guarantee the safety of your data?) • Do you have controls that would prevent one from reading sensitive business data that exists on your employees' laptops in the event of theft? • What controls are in place to prevent your users from accessing sensitive data from unathorised devices? • If an organisation in your supply chain was to fall victim to a cyber breach, what data of yours would be at risk and is significant? • Do you have controls in place to stop your users from saving business data into their personal accounts? (i.e are your users signing into Google Chrome with their personal GMail account and saving passwords that belong to your organisation up to their account - A practice that's referred to as 'Shadow IT') • What AI tools are users working with and do they know the risks of oversharing? • Are your firewall policies logged centrally, are users with admin accounts logged centrally and are they reviewed frequently? • Who in the organisation is saving data to that unencrypted external hard drive? If no one in your organisation can answer these questions, you could be at risk, and would benefit from a GAP analysis exercise. Our job is to ask the above questions, do the digging to surface where weak areas exist in your IT landscape, prioritise the risks, and provide advice on how to remediate any issues - With every issue, there is a solution. Being aware of the issues in your environment helps you plan ahead and to avoid any unexpected surprises.

Today some of the Intersys team had the incredible opportunity to tour the legendary Lloyd’s Building in the heart of the City of London. A massive thank you to Roger for being such a knowledgeable and engaging guide, making this experience even more enriching. The Lloyd’s Building, often called the “Inside-Out Building” due to its unique architecture, is an iconic symbol of London’s financial district. This building is a high-tech masterpiece is the headquarters of Lloyd’s of London, the world’s leading insurance marketplace. Lloyd’s has been synonymous with innovation in insurance for over 300 years, dating back to its origins in Edward Lloyd’s coffee shop in 1688. During the tour, we delved into the building’s rich maritime heritage. Many of the insurance policies underwritten here historically covered ships, cargo, and voyages – and to this day, maritime insurance remains a cornerstone of Lloyd’s business. We were fascinated by the building’s historical artifacts. Lloyd’s is home to many of the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance companies, offering cover for risks of all kinds, from cyber threats to renewable energy assets (a topic close to our hearts at Intersys).
