A panel of finance experts at Energy Week Western Balkans 2024 highlighted the urgent need for innovative financing models to support the growing demand for renewable energy in the region. Representatives from EBRD, European Investment Bank (EIB), UK Export Finance, and Finance in Motion discussed tailored financing mechanisms, such as long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), blended finance structures, and bridge-to-merchant financing, that could address the high capital costs and long lead times typical of renewable projects. UKEF’s representative, Duško Krsmanović, added that public institutions like UKEF can play a vital role by enhancing the credit profiles of sovereign-backed renewable projects, reducing financial risk for commercial banks and private investors. https://lnkd.in/eUYt68dZ #EWWB

At the Energy Week Western Balkans 2024, energy developers and traders called for more transparent and stable market frameworks to support renewable energy growth in the region. Branimir Beljan from Danske Commodities explained that inconsistent regulations and a lack of harmonised balancing rules create additional risks for #traders and #developers operating across Balkan borders. He noted that the current setup forces developers to rely on Hungarian energy prices as a reference, even though these prices may not reflect local market conditions. https://lnkd.in/eGhr5mN6 #EWWB
