📣 It was great to see IoD East of England member Sasha Graham flying the IoD flag (badge!) at a recent jiu-jitsu event. 🎤 Sasha said: "I fell in love with martial arts when I was 5, but only managed to start practising in my 30s. I never really had access, understanding or opportunity to get into it. I found Jiu-Jitsu accidentally. It came up as a recommendation in my local women’s network and I signed up (without actually knowing what it was😅). Today I feel a huge sense of regret for not doing it earlier. One of the best things about starting jiu-jitsu was finding a welcoming and diverse community, where you meet people from different places and walks of life. However, there is still a huge gender disparity in the sport. For example, in the competition, my friend’s division had only 3 women, whereas another men’s division had 93 men. (While the divisions aren't the same, the gap is stark at all levels.🙈) 🤼🏽♀️ I want to see more women joining, and more women being in the spotlight role-modelling their progression. I don’t want anyone to live with this sense of regret that I have and I want to see women living fulfilling lives that defy stereotypes."
