The EU’s Omnibus package is a serious letdown to government commitment on sustainability by failing to get the balance right between simplification and meaningful action. ISEAL urges policymakers to reconsider the proposal and approach. We believe that this package and process set the wrong precedent for government action and accountability on sustainability and ask that the Commission adopts a meaningful approach to stakeholder dialogue and consultation going forward. Tackling the big sustainability issues has never been more urgent. 🌍 With new legislation such as #duediligence requirements and #EUDR coming into effect, the role of sustainability systems is evolving. Now, more than ever, sustainability systems are playing a pivotal role. A #smartmix of credible, voluntary sustainability systems and legislation is key to driving up standards across a variety of issues such as climate change, human rights and biodiversity loss. 🌱 Our Credibility Principles not only define the core values of credible and effective sustainability systems, but also help businesses, governments, and civil society to identify systems that can be effective partners in delivering against shared sustainability objectives. 💡 🎥 https://ow.ly/5qAf50V5fcT

“Companies that work with credible sustainability systems will be ahead of the game and better placed to meet many of the requirements of EUDR or any future due diligence legislation”. ISEAL’s Executive Director, Karin Kreider, spoke at a deforestation event last week, highlighting that credible sustainability systems can be an important tool for businesses in advancing action on sustainability. 🌳 Our Credibility Principles not only define the core values of credible and effective sustainability systems, but can also help guide businesses grappling with EUDR implementation. 🧩 🌱 Learn more 👉 https://ow.ly/iWAr50V1X4S
Tackling deforestation has never been more urgent. At a deforestation event last week I shared my thoughts on how businesses can stay ahead of EUDR requirements - and future due diligence legislation - by partnering with credible sustainability systems. The EUDR is a bold step towards curbing global deforestation. But given the scope of the requirements, a key question is - what needs to guide EUDR implementation and long-term supply chain action on deforestation? Here are the messages I shared: ✅ Credibility matters. Businesses need trustworthy solutions to navigate EUDR compliance and sustainability impact. ISEAL’s Credibility Principles provide a framework to identify credible sustainability systems that can support effective implementation. ✅ Credible sustainability systems are already making an impact. Many ISEAL members - operating in sectors like palm oil, forestry, soy, and wood products - have spent decades setting standards and enabling action on deforestation. We continue to support our members in scaling up effective solutions that align with EUDR. ✅ Smallholder inclusion is critical. For EUDR to succeed, we must ensure that smallholder producers of coffee, cocoa, and palm oil are not left behind. Investing in collaborative, non-proprietary data platforms and other accessible solutions will be key. The path ahead is complex, but by working together, we can drive meaningful change. We look forward to supporting credible sustainability systems to step up with new solutions. ISEAL, Vidya Rangan
